RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Going over a new NethServer install and finding all the security problems. Actually not many, and all fixable. Reported them as bugs for NS.
Nessus is happy about the server now.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just tested the file transfer rate to get the results of swapping about 75% of my file shares to NFS from SMB without changing any other hardware and it's gone from 119MB/s to 249MB/s. Big jump.

SR-IOV issue got me again. Built a new VM a couple weeks ago and for the past 2 days it has been losing network connectivity. I totally forgot to check it. Host is running 2012 R2. I thought MS fixed this a long time ago, but I still had to disable it.
Don't use E1000 if it's vmware.

New South Wales erosion: Huge swells leave homes at risk of collapse
Huge waves have pummelled the Australian state of New South Wales, eroding some coastal areas and putting homes at risk of collapse.
In beach suburbs to the north of Sydney, residents lost decks and fences as the surf lapped at the edge of properties. Authorities say they have recorded waves as high as 11m (36ft) this week off the city's coastline. The wild surf has been caused by a strong low pressure system. On Friday, the Bureau of Meteorology (Bom) re-issued a "hazardous" surf warning for the state's entire 2,100km (1,300-mile) coastline.Sounds like some builders ignored their erosions studies, or didn't do them.

Erosion deniers. LOL
Nope. Gotta be Trumps fault somehow.

Debating getting lifetime PlexPass while its on sale
Last year, I only paid $75 for my mine.
I just checked mine, I got it in 2014 for $75. Probably the best $75 I've ever spent. We use Plex SO much.
You only need the plexpass if you're running a server. Friends/family that access it do not need the pass.

Presidential debate: Trump and Biden trade insults in chaotic debate
President Donald Trump and his challenger Joe Biden have fiercely clashed in one of the most chaotic and bitter White House debates in years.
Mr Trump frequently interrupted, prompting Mr Biden to tell him to "shut up" as the two fought over the pandemic, healthcare and the economy. The US president was challenged over white supremacist support and refused to condemn a specific far-right group. Opinion polls suggest Mr Biden has a steady single-digit lead over Mr Trump. But with 35 days until election day, surveys from several important states show a closer contest. Polls also suggest one in 10 Americans have yet to make up their mind how to vote. But analysts said Tuesday night's debate - the first of three - probably would not make much difference.Close polling doesn't sound good for the Biden camp. Remember what the polling looked like in 2016? And then remember how that turned out.
I can't remember reading that the polling companies have changed the way they do their polling. If they haven't, they're likely going to be wrong. Again.
The constant reports of polls led to voter apathy, so the attitude for many was, "I don't need to vote; others will do it for me." Everyone has to vote or else democracy fails.

re-purposing an old 2012 server that ran as a DC and with RDS.
working on it remotely, demoted the DC and it reboots, can't log back in remotely, everything else looks fine, no way to get back in.
1.75 hour round trip to find that I should have removed the RDS role prior to the DC, removed RDS and all good. You could've done that with
enter-pssession server
And then, depending on the server, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/remotedesktop/remove-rdserver or https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/remotedesktop/remove-rdsessionhost.
A properly configured WinRM gpo is invaluable, and it should be among the first thing you configure for working remotely.
But you know this, right? -

Our little puppy, Clive, was finally big enough to sleep in the bed last night. He's still tiny, but big enough to not get rolled over on now. He's a much happier dog today now that he had snuggles all night.
How dare you post about a puppy and not put up photos!
I'm sure there's been at least one or ten in the thread in the last 3 or 4 months, lol.
I don't remember what kind of dog Clive is, but I hope he gets big and/or smart enough to be a good protector of the family!
Clive isn't even that old. That was Lula, our 12 year old Boston Terrier that needed adoption. She's been adopted twice, but both times failed. Looking for a home for her. She's so sweet and affectionate, but can't handle kids or other dogs - so really needs like a senior couple with their own house.
My wife and I keep thinking we want a dog, but neither of us wants the responsibility of the upkeep, just like kids. No one [in this house] has time for that. Too busy with important things like an afternoon nap.

RE: HP unveils versatile gaming line for adult gamers
I always check out http://www.pcper.com/hwlb for the latest on the gaming parts for my PC upgrades. My current system is an ASUS GENE motherboard with an i7-4790, 16gb of RAM and an nVidia 970. It's not the greatest, but I can still play everything just fine. Using the pcper site, it's easy to pick and choose where to upgrade.
The monitor from HP looks nice! I wonder how it will compare to the Dell monitor (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=210-ADTR)?

I've had the opposite experience and have done better at organizations with no internal contacts.
Well, depending on how things go tomorrow, I may be headed down that road.
I know about quite a few openings in the Orlando area that are actively seeking employees. It may not be ideal for you, but lower cost of living and no state income tax.
I would only move if it were a job from Disney for at least $150k/yr and they had some moving benefit+bonus. I'd love to give being a cast member a try.

RE: Apple Watch VENT
I have a MS Band 2. It's a great thing. I can scan it at Starbucks to pay, get my IMs/SMS on it, track all my activity like you' expect, and it tracks my sleep. There's more updates released to it each month, and I expect that in a month or so, I'll be able to add my other barcode items, like Kroger and Ace Hardware (Windows Phone users can do this now).
Anyway, I've only experienced joy at the MS store's response when I've had a problem. They generally fix the problem or replace the hardware. I've yet to replace my Band, though I have upgraded my Surface twice through their trade-in program.
I don't think I'd ever get any Apple product. Their TOS/EULA is too long and, as South Park showed us, I don't want to agree.

Also, @JaredBusch, do you get some kind of kickback for referring others to T-Mobile? Such as a code or something?
Never looked if they have a referral program or not.
Just googled it, they do.
Just IM'd you.
I've been using Tmo for years and they've been fantastic. Ever since LeGere started working for them, as the CEO, things have improved a great deal. He's actively poking the bear and riling up all the other carriers.
I wish I knew about the referral program! Sad panda.
