@Dashrender I hope no one in your family or circle gets sick or dies. Many people out there will not understand the severity of this issue until anyone near them is dead, and when you figure out that this is preventable, that leadership failed for months, that Dear Leader continues to shift blame and not assert any kind of direction, but your friend is still dead, imagine what you'll think then? Will you attend the funeral through Zoom or FaceTime?

We give people shit all the time for not knowing how to right click, read what the error message was before clicking ok, or shutting a PC off when it's doing updates and says not to do that. Right now, our doctors, the CDC, the WHO and everyone out there in a scientific job -- the SysAdmins for biology --, are telling us to stay home, to wear masks, to wash your hands, to not gather indoors, and people are doing it. They're probably the same people that can't right click. Listen to the SysAdmins.

I'm not looking for anyone to die either - at the same time - how long are you willing to lock down? If you're a person who works for a living at a restaurant/movie theater/amusement park and are basically now unemployed - what is your proposal?

I'm more or less OK with wearing masks for a while, I don't know about indefinitely.

As for attending a funeral - I've missed several already - I almost missed my own mothers (like that was ever going to happen in reality). But we did have a zoom funeral for my mother for those who couldn't attend.

You realize that when there was a stay-at-home order, the numbers peaked and then dropped. Now that everyone is tired of it, you want to get out and ignore it, like watching an episode of the apprentice where you're bored after 20 seconds.

Oh, Essential workers? During the stay at home orders, essential workers finally learned they were essential. If they really were all along, they needed things like healthcare, a living wage, and respect from the Karens of the world who just want to talk to managers. So, if they're essential, treat them as such. Put them on Tricare, medicare, or use the ACA to give them free, state-based healthcare. MAGAs will argue, "but that's socialism!" and so is the social security retirement program, which is now seen as an entitlement. It has social in the title, ffs. Further, if people were paid appropriately, then unemployment wouldn't be as impactful. Allowing people to get out of the "living paycheck to paycheck" rut grants them the opportunity to save and -- hold your shit here -- spend more, as well as buy houses, invest in their retirement, and --oh shit-- make the economy stronger. Plus, an unemployment insurance payout would be higher (OMG another social program).

What the fuck has this president done? Cut healthcare, create a trade war (increasing prices for consumers), institute and strengthen immigration concentration camps, ignore a pandemic, failed to lead, and on, and on. The 'me first' attitude, which you are also representing, is why this country is failing.

I'm sorry you've lost people. I really am. I apologize for the assumption that you were insulated. Many people are, and they exhibit the same attitudes.

Lockdown needs to go on, needs to be observed, and it needs enforcement until the infrastructure can support reopening. Right now, Texas is overwhelmed. How long until Florida is? What happens when people are shunted to other locations? Look at how Italy handled the virus and you'll see that it's entirely possible to survive with a stay-at-home order. More will die without it.

As to masks, here's a doctor. Don't listen to me!

Let me fucking close this non-starter of a discussion that I'm tired of reading about by saying: WEAR YOUR FUCKING MASK. It is literally making America an embarrassment to the world.

The problem is, emotions get in the way of calculating the math.

Which is so very contrary to how math works. Or science. But if global pandemic has taught us anything, it's how painfully stupid most people really are.

Not me. It just justified what I've been saying all along.

More proof that the world needs a benevolent dictator. πŸ˜‰

Anyone qualified to handle that task is also smart enough to not. A better solution would be to cease celebrating stupidity and ignorance, and teach critical thinking with a focus on validated truth (not truth you need faith to trust) and science.

Maybe if we get vaccines all the time

Then, that would be a vaccine similar to the flu shot. Not all vaccines are a full efficacy forever.

Flu is like annually, though. This would be a lot more.

Is it though? You get the shot normally in what November? and it lasts until March, maybe April? I mean I just don't know - but it doesn't need to last the whole year for normal flu because the heat of summer really dampens it.
Now, of course, that said - Covid-19 has clearly shown to not give a shit about heat. So quarterly inoculations could become a normal thing - damn, someone's making a mint.

The goal is to eliminate the virus, just like smallpox. I suppose the cost of that is greater than a funeral, but then, what's the cost of losing a child? After all, it was only alive for months, maybe a couple years? You couldn't have invested more than a hundred grand in that time. Compared to the cost of a vaccine, and the 7 billion already spent, that's nothing.

Are you just as heartless as our narcissistic moron of a president who'd rather divide the country than lead it, who'd rather claim that the world is out to get him personally because he listens to conspiracies from qanon, and who's golfed more in his first term than any other first term president while also having been critical of those same previous presidents' time off? I don't understand why anyone would listen to an administration that is saying, "some of you may die, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make."

The government is run by the very people that he's allowing to die by his inaction, his stupidity, and plain attitude. It's gross negligence. If you want to really listen, look at his actions: everyone coming in to contact with him is contact checked and covid tested. The administration knows how to combat the virus; they just don't fucking care.

Science has already given us the answers. No one is listening. You'd rather join the army of Karens and carry a card from a fake company, claiming you have ADA issues that prevent you from wearing the same mask that you'd demand that your surgeon wear for that 8 hour operation to remove your head from your ass. If everyone did that in the beginning, if Dear Leader had actually required it, then you'd be looking at a much different US economy, and the country might not be banned from EU travel.

But, yes, let's talk about cost and economy. Let's discuss convenience of a vaccine. I'll be over here checking out the receipts from my father's 2004 burial so I can compare to the current supply/demand economy for half my family that's over 60 years old. You know, the present rate of death is more than 9/11 every day? I'd think scump would know that, considering he had some experience cleaning up at ground zero. right?

Coronavirus: Oxford vaccine triggers immune response

A coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford appears safe and triggers an immune response.
Trials involving 1,077 people showed the injection led to them making antibodies and T-cells that can fight coronavirus. The findings are hugely promising, but it is still too soon to know if this is enough to offer protection and larger trials are under way. The UK has already ordered 100 million doses of the vaccine. The vaccine - called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 - is being developed at unprecedented speed. It is made from a genetically engineered virus that causes the common cold in chimpanzees. It has been heavily modified, first so it cannot cause infections in people and also to make it "look" more like coronavirus.

Maybe if I would end up dead from COVID-19, then I'd give it a try.

Exactly - that's the problem with any vaccine they will come out with in the next two years, maybe even four. They are rushing it so much - no way in hell I'm taking it until something like 1 million people have, and has less than a .01% bad effect.

How did we get past the 1918 flu? @Grey ?

How much has science advanced and technology changed in a hundred years? How much money is being funneled to allow scientists to focus on the problem? How many of those people are working on it now vs. working on the 1918 flu? Yes, the older flu took 90 years to get a vaccine, and how many were working on that for the entire span? How many anti-vaxxers will it take to fill up a graveyard when they deny science and valid research?

Don't get me wrong - there is definitely valid research out there - but finding it is practically impossible today.
Just look at the hospitals, etc reporting huge number of Covid cases over things that are almost certainly not covid related.
It's a bloody money game, with your life in the balance.

The vaccines of yester-year seem infinitely safer than the drugs they continue to pump out today. The FDA is nothing more than a shill of the pharmaceutical companies showing a faint vein of care for the public good.

If a lifeguard tells you, "Don't go swimming, there's a shark," would you ignore them just because you don't see a fin? Because you're doing exactly that. Ignoring the valid experts in their field because you saw a Karen post on facebook and now you won't wear a mask, or you wear it under your chin in the false belief that you can't breathe.

I bet you love hearing your IT users ignore your advice.

Just started this last night thanks to Netflix "shuffle Watch"

Don't know Shuttle Watch, but Warrior Nun was decent.

Shuffle watch for netflix is basically : We'll look at your interests and pick something we think you'll like.
You can use infinite shuffles until you find something to watch.

Someone said that they used it and ended up Episode 12 Season 6 of Supernatural and they had to restart.
But for me it started me Ep.1 S1 of Warrior Nun.

This happened to me when I was in the hospital for my gall bladder removal. I wound up stuck there a week and by then I was hooked so I had to watch the entire thing from the start.
