    • RE: Drive Appearance

I think describing the heads as moving in and out is more appropriate since they're mounted on an armature, like a record player, and not forward or backward. I often use record players as a description for clients when they ask how drives work.

In my writing, I try to avoid use 'but' and things like it (however, etc.). Replace the word 'but' with 'and' as an exercise to see how it changes your readers' perception.

You've got a couple sentences that are like Yoda. Eg, by doing this, and it's unnecessary.

Similary, the logical volume... You missed a comma. The same occurs in drive impressions, the stack.

A good article, and a great way to open discussion on SANs and how volumes, drives and RAID presentations can be partitioned or utilized efficiently.

@Ambarishrh For this small trip, train is the way that I would go, and then rent a car or Uber at your destination (Rochester). If you were doing a real road trip, or want to really get on the road, you can join me next year in August, 2018 (the whole month). I'm going to do about 8-9k miles or so.

    • IEAK

I just went to download IEAK 10 (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/browser/bb219517.aspx) and it looks like Microsoft deprecated v10's download. Does anyone know if v11 supersedes it? I haven't found any details from Microsoft where they say as much and I want to be sure both v10 and 11 are covered in the same kit if that's the case. So, I'm just looking for confirmation from anyone that's used the IEAK, really.

I'm doing research for comparisons to an environment that I'm working in now with FreeNAS as the primary san in the enterprise.

      Ewe, yuck.

Yes, I'm trying to convince them to move away from that "investment" and it's so heavily ingrained, that I'm having trouble pulling the kool-aid out of their fridge even as it's killing them.

I thought the goal was to get him drunk, not violently ill?

Yet he's already had it and used his own money to purchase it

The last part of that is the worst part.

    • RE: what windows server should I choose for Active directory?

@Alan 2012 r2 is the current standard here (and my preference), but it is up to you to decide how to move forward with your own implementation. If you're building an AD infrastructure, you really shouldn't have to ask this kind of question, especially if you've been hired as a SysAdmin. Honestly, asking this kind of question makes me wonder about your experience in IT.

I've always had good experiences with Delta.

I've had them just leave me while I stood at the gate. Pretty sure that they overbooked and closed the gate so that I wouldn't make the plane. But I was on time, connecting from another flight and they just didn't let me board (and lots of other people.)

Southwest has called me on my cell phone when I was transferring and the gates were a mile away from each other, maybe two. They knew I had landed and that my SW flight landing was delayed by traffic, and they were asking me to 'please hurry up!' I made it.

I'm not sure personally I really want my picture in my profile. As you can see here, I have Stitch as my profile picture, not my face.

I even managed to get my Stitch picture into my AD profile, but it doesn't show up in Outlook, so I don't even recall how I did it now - it might be local only to this computer I did it ages ago.

Update: they responded, but their prices don't seem to match what Stallard has available. I'm not sure how a sale isn't meeting up with standard prices from another vendor. Odd.

To be completely fair, I think Stallard Tech does off-lease equipment, not factory new like Xbyte. It's a difference worth noting if going into production, but for a home lab either should be fine.

How can that be on an R510? These are no longer produced.

Spin up a <<INSERT YOUR FASVORITE DISTRO HERE>> VM and install X2Go?

Mint 18 is pretty easy to get this set up and working on.

I use this for a remote site, and I let mint start from the iso every time. It's like a mini-VDI!

You mean using the live cd?

      yes.
but that's just how Linux Mint works. You boot from the live CD and inside you choose to install to local disk if you want.

Exactly, and I just don't install. I don't even have a 'disk' assigned to that VM; just a CD.
