This Apple this is border line ti me @scottalanmiller is right but for sure more relevant things happen in real life...

That's a fair idea, but it relies on the premise that the Senate is overworked and has no time to do important things. But in reality, the Senate does very little work and has loads of free time.

These are lawmakers, remember, and the investigation is to determine if there is a gap in the law protecting Americans from monopoly abuse or consumer abuse. This is very much their jobs and honestly, impacts the average American far more than most things that the Senate does. This is actually pretty decently important within their scope of things.

There are certainly a great number of other things that they could be doing. But that's not the alternative. The alternative is "how many other things would they be doing?" And if they didn't have this iPhone issue, they'd probably just take more time off. And it is not likely the Senate doing this, but a subcommittee of like three people looking for some information while other subcommittees work on gather similar info about myriad other issues.

There are two reasons we don't see much work come out of the Senate. One is that they are lawmakers and in theory, we don't want new laws very often. New laws should be few and far between or it means our old laws aren't very good. The second is that there are tons of things that people won't agree on or if a vote is taken something awful might happen. So things that have no chance of passing or might end in disaster are often avoided, regardless of available free time.

@scottalanmiller said in Comcast and AT&T laying off thousands after claims that tax discounts will create jobs:

The article says that people were fired, not layed off. Very different things. Fired means that they weren't doing their jobs, or were getting in trouble. Not that they were no longer needed. To fire someone requires a very different reaction to the IRS than laying them off. You lay people off when you re-org. So something fishy with the article.

Yes, the article is using click bait terms of course.

While firing and laying off are very different things to the IRS, that does not mean that firing is only done to people that were not doing their jobs or were getting into trouble.

If a firm wants to simply get rid of a person or persons, they can simply fire them for no reason if they so desire in most states.

But on the subject of the linked article, the people were giving severance packages and required to sign NDAs about them. So layed off is not what happened. Employment was terminated, so fired is a correct term, if someone baited in this instance.

Have an Opensips node there, took it offline for latency issues. Didnt realize there was an actual outage until someone else mentioned it to me just now.

BREAKING: Senator Chuck Schumer says there will be a Senate Vote to overturn the FCC's ruling on Net Neutrality -- Only a simple majority will be required to overturn the ruling.

Sadly, he needs a majority but the R have the majority and don't want to vote against the companies that have them in their pockets. And there is no point to doing so as this was Trump's boi in the FCC and Trump has veto. So while CHuck is doing a good thing, it won't make any difference.

It's posturing. Seems more like he knows it won't work and is just prepping for 2018 at this point.

He and Booker are top considerations for president so, very likely.

      15. No Blocking. Consumers who subscribe to a retail broadband Internet access service
must get what they have paid for—access to all (lawful) destinations on the Internet. This essential and
well-accepted principle has long been a tenet of Commission policy, stretching back to its landmark
decision in Carterfone, which protected a customer’s right to connect a telephone to the monopoly
      telephone network.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle

      0_1513005080161_Software_dev2.svg.png

Beta literally means it's not reached candidacy for release yet. RC is still not released, but is what they might consider for release once tested. Notice Beta is in the middle of the "non-released" period.

These are as the terms have always been used, even going back to the early 1980s and, I assume, long before that. Release being such a structured term that it is nearly impossible to define released without using the term released itself.

While I'm sure this has no baring in reality - for me release is a point but the public can get support for the thing.

That's not quite accurate. There is no reason that something unreleased can't offer support. How else do you really do your testing, get feedback, and so forth? It's an expectation that anything that the public can get would get some amount of support most likely, because otherwise, what is the purpose of the public nature of the testing?

Perhaps I should have added the words "expect to" to the support portion. As you said with the other thread, There should be no expectation of support for the product that was still in beta.

So, here is a question then, does Microsoft ever release software? Because nothing that MS makes comes with support.

What about Debian Linux, is it ever released?

      Expect <> free.

But free software has all the same release guidelines as commercial software. And MS products aren't normally free.

Again - what does cost have to do with anything?

As I also said - you'd all probably disagree with me.

Because you mentioned it in the post I quoted.

Please highlight the part where I mentioned costs.

Same thing I quoted and you responded to.

Many support cases later, I ended up just moving it all to a different server. Would never trust them to run actual workloads, sadly.
