I stopped testing Quad9 on my computer. I've been having some weird issues with GitLab errors on the website. As soon as I plugged in Google's DNS, it worked.

But then again, a refresh or two got it working again while I was still using Quad9.

I'll update later to report if any issue like that returns now that I'm using Google on my computer.

      Nope, was not Quad9 related.

I think it's some kind of timeout I never noticed before or GitLab is having issues.

I don't trust hardware manufacturers to write good software. I trust them to make good hardware.

      That, too.

This really doesn't compute to me. If you have bad drivers, how can you expect your hardware to perform well?

How often do you have vendors making their own drivers? Sometimes, but not all that often.

We've had that (we being Linux) for how long now?

      0_1511920823688_tabs.png

Depends on what you use to browse files on Windows and Linux. Linux file browsers aren't really part of the OS like explorer.exe or the built-in file browser.

The file browsers in Linux are all separate projects, just like how Clover3 and Explorer++ allows you to have multi-tabbed file explorers.

So I guess you could say that we (we being Windows) have also had that for how long now, too.

P.S. I like Linux more than Windows, so I'm just saying...

In the same vein, Linux isn't an OS. So at the kernel level, neither Linux or NTKernel have that now. Both have OSes built on top of them with file browsers. So the Linux eco-system OSes have had this for eons, WIndows just got it. Using Linux is bad here, but using Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu or whatever makes more sense.

Ya it was just easier to say Linux to reference all of the distros.

@storageninja said in VMware on Azure?:

@nerdydad said in VMware on Azure?:

Kind of interesting in concept. Charges has to be outrageous though because one would be paying for both Azure and VMware licenses at the same time. Suppose Azure annually would be comparable to physical hardware on-prem throughout its lifetime.

Recently I discovered that I can restore a VM from Veeam on a VMware workload to Azure. I thought that was a twist.

The issue with doing a restore like that is it's typically a one way trip as...

Transit costs OUT of azure suck. You would have to switch to doing agent-based backups to get data out.

In the case of this announcement, it's unilateral (With VMware saying they were not consulted). Considering VMware licensing for hosting providers is a special program and Microsoft is not in it this leads to speculation that...

Are they trying to get another partner to deploy/manage it? This would likely breach the EULA on the hosting program as it prevented co-marketing/white label stuff like this the last time I read it.

Microsoft thinks it can offer vSphere as a service without joining the VMware Cloud Provider Program (This will likely be met with legal).

Azure is known to run on custom hardware servers. Unless they've got DL380's or something certified this will not be supported.

Just like all of the others (unless he admits guilt), he's not guilty in my mind until it's proven otherwise.

So Saddam Hussein was innocent of all of that?

Saddam Hussein was outside of the jurisdiction of the US and doesn't have any kind of due process protected by the Constitution. 🙂

Ok. . . so the US gymnastics head physicians are innocent until proven guilty of molesting the team members?

As far as the law is concerned, yes.

That's how US law works - or at least is supposed to!

Actually, innocence is usually bought if you have enough money. So, the whole system is broken.

This doesn't do anything to fix the damage to his reputation.

Yep. Even if he were to be exonerated, the court of public opinion gave its ruling the moment an allegation was made.

Exactly. Who is generally considered to be the murderer of Nicole Brown Simpson?

Considered = most would probably say OJ
Is = I think there was a story about him admitting it after he acquitted, but I think the story was debunked. If so, then "is" has no answer.

I wonder how many posts we will see elsewhere about how there was no Superfish and Lenovo fixed all that, or it was only consumer machines or other made up stuff.

I doubt that it will or should gain any traction.

Have you seen people's reactions to this since the 2015 announcement? They've got lot's of traction in the marketplace. on SW.

      There, FTFY.

It's not just over on SW tho. Of course, I have to wonder what % of SW add sales are Lenovo. Probably a reason so many of my anti Lenovo posts have disappeared without any notification.

It will most likely be a 3-2 vote in favor of revoking the net neutrality rules. So we've got that to look forward to.

There are so many outages and issues with the SW community, and no ability to track those issues there since when they have issues they might not be accessible, that it seemed sensible to track issues here. As outages are so common, having a running status of them is prudent given that a few times each week we need to verify if the site is working or in what way it is not functioning.

They were testing the community stability at the end of day today.

      Rosenstein also said

"...People want to secure their houses, but they still need to get in and out. Same issue here."

Not even close, those people are welcome to come and go in their damn house. You on the other hand might get shot in the face if you just walk into someone's house uninvited.

People can still get in and out of their phone. I don't have to give my door key to the DoJ.

Yeah - I'm trying to come up with a physical example to compare to digital security - but I'm coming up blank.

Doors aren't bad. You lock your door, the DoJ is an intruder, the key company does not send copies of your keys to the DoJ.

It's really not good enough. The DOJ can hack your door with lock picks or just bust it down.

I suppose a better example would be a universal garage door opener that only the government is supposed to have, but of course, once the bad guys know about that, they will keep hacking the government until they steal one of those universal door openers. Secure keys for encryption would be the same. The government is as leaky as a cauldron, there's almost no chance they could keep keys like this from the hackers. Then instantly everyone would be vulnerable.

Everyone that uses a mainstream OS or device that operates anywhere in the world that has any operations within the US. Yup
