The issue is they are charging through a USB cable that plugs into the power cable. There is no good way (that I have found) to secure the power cable to the USB cable.

Sugru! I got a ton of this at SpiceWorld a couple years ago it is awesome!

Never heard of it... Looks quite interesting!

@scottalanmiller Do you remember what file(s) firewalld uses for it's config off the top of your head yet? I'm drawing a blank.

Cloning iptables rules was/is so easy, just copy the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file to the new host.

I'll have to try that when I get home... Two screens, 24" 1960x1080 and a 32" 2550x1600... wonder how big that would show up as.

Has anyone made the drive from Toronto to Rochester? I'm probably flying to Toronto for a couple of days before MC17, and will probably rent a car and drive around the lake (~3 hours).

Ah yes, Toronto, and the almost completely unused highway. It's the only place I know of that put in a toll route, but the tolls only apply to local people. The drive isn't bad, the worst part is the stop at customs/immigration.

I figured the border would be the only sticky wicket, and it looks like a nice, scenic drive.

If you've got the time, stop and see Niagra Falls from the Canadian side, much better view.

      One last thought...

IF the reason that Xen has 2% market share is because there is NO LOGICAL REASON for vSphere or paid Hyper-V (with VMM to manage) then that means 98% of IT people are idiots. If 98% are idiots, wouldn't that mean they should be outsourcing their IT as much as possible to their vendors or others? (and therefore not deploy Xen).

      Catch-22 πŸ™‚

Xen has 2% of the market share because it never came out of the niche. Most admins are lazy (it's natural, all people are so deeply inside and lazy = OK) so if you need to perform 1 simple activity with ESXi and it "just works" but you need to run many whistles with Xen... Naturally you'll go ESXi next time! Just because you want to spend these +2 hours drinking Coors and watching Vikings losing another game. Being too professional != being good. IMHO of course.

I'd argue that Xen is the market leader by far, whereas XenServer you're right on track with. Picking at straws I know.

@scottalanmiller said in Why Do Recruiters Never Get Involved in Forums Like This:

I've invited many recruiters to this and other forums, and none ever show up or decide to participate, even though the arena is absolutely perfect for them. What better way to find, engage, and validate potential candidates; and how better could you achieve visibility for a job posting?

Why? As far as I can tell, ML has about 20 regular posters, half of whom run their own business, and most live in Texas. The probability of an average recruiter justifying time spent on here seems negligible.

I know I'm near the top 20 around here, and had publicly announced that I was looking for a full time position somewhere for almost 2 years. A lot of others have changed jobs in the same time frame. Lots of opportunity around here.

Recruiters seem to actively despise transparency, vetting, or even good placement. Why?

Because that's not the goal. The goal is butt in chair so the recruiting company makes money.

SAM logic: I think X. Therefore anyone who doesn't agree therefore must be somehow corrupt, stupid, incompetent or evil.

At least @scottalanmiller uses logic!

      /init: line 7: can’t open /dev/sr0: No medium found

Now this is what is catching me. It can't find its own live filesystem.

This drives me bat-**** crazy at times. A long time ago, in a drug induced haze, some Debian developer thought it would be a good idea to write a check to make sure that a cdrom is mounted and available in the installation routine. If it doesn't find a cdrom, never shall it move on.

If you're using a usb stick, the "fix" is to have a copy of the iso on the stick and mount the iso to /cdrom.

Do any of you use task manager to troubleshoot what if there is an issue with a PC? I'm trying to get a sense of the steps people go through.

I use it often when people complain about a slow computer. It's one of the things I think Microsoft vastly improved in Windows 10. Makes it quick to see if the computer is running into CPU, RAM, or network performance issues. Then be able to go look at the processes, and sort by CPU or RAM.

This is an almost daily occurrence.

The port size on the Zeros is the only thing I couldn't get past. Pi 3 is where my preference is.

      Different use-cases

I want to get a few of these for UPS monitoring. Would the Zero be the best choice?

At least a Pi2/3 would be way overpowered. Do you plan to use a screen with the board? In this case, use a Zero with some very lightweight desktop (LXDE/LightDM or something similar) or use a Pi2/3.

Just want to get email notification. All places have wireless, so as long as the unit has that and USB, I should be good.

Might want to go with the Raspberry Pi 3 then, they've got wireless built in and standard USB ports. You could plug into up to 4 UPS systems if they have more than 1 in the same area. A few more dollars, but no hassles with USB ports or wifi adapters.
