So in our situation, we had to open PowerShell and run diskmgmt.msc and it was able to open it. You have to have the full name.

This came about because someone installed some "Classic Shell" hijack software that removes all of the Windows Vista and later functionality to find tools. So the system is almost entirely broken.

You could also hit the "Windows" key + r, then type that in the run box and hit enter.

Only if you have the full name. diskmgmt.msc will work that way, diskmgmt will not. We tried.

Correct. I am surprised this became a post. However I understand with the whole classicshell situation.

Yeah, like I never have to know the whole name. I figured it was diskmgmt.exe. Nearly every guide only has it without the extension. And I've never had to type it out before.

Yeah, most applications for Windows are .msc or .cpl that control things as below:

      Services - services.msc
      Programs and Features - appwiz.cpl
      Disk Managment - diskmgmt.msc
      Computer Management - compmgmt.msc

For Control panel you would open just "control" and that's it so it can be inconsistent.

      And so forth.

I usually just start mmc.exe. Three simple characters to type (or seven), no need to remember names (I used to know them, but...) and access to all mmc's in one place.

    • RE: Printers - IP or WSD

Well, I'm actually using a (Windows) print server for a simple reason: Security. All my printers are on a dedicated VLAN without internet access or access to any internal resource. The print server is the only machine with access to the printers.

Why? Because printers are a very common attack vector. Network capable printers and MFP's are often using totally outdated embedded linux operating systems and can easily be hijacked. Same for FAX devices: There's an exploit out there that allows you to gain access to MFPs from serveral vendors by just sending a crafted FAX.

Watching another episode of the remake of Carl Sagans "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage" with Neil deGrasse Tyson on Netflix.

I think it's pretty good. Don't expect to learn lots of new things if you are already interessted in such topics as (astro)physics, evolution theory etc, but it's a good round-up and probably awesome for people who don't have any idea.

Have you played it before? It is SO good.

I really liked the Original and the 2nd one. Haven't had the ability to play the 3rd yet.

You have to finish it, it's all one story!

Guess I'm a little out of sorts... I started with ME 2 (it was on a Bundle, I think). Need to get Part 1 and play it.

      /me votes for corporal punishment

Better be careful. I might enjoy it. In all interest of full disclosure, ME1 wasn't available until a different bundle, but I did get it. πŸ™‚

Oh, don't worry, I don't care much whether you enjoy that or not πŸ˜‰

      Your to-do list:

      • go play ME1 (the controls are very weird on a PC, better use a controller) and finish the game. Complete each and every side mission and DLCs
      • import char in ME2
      • Finish the game doing each and every side mission and DLCs
      • import char in ME3
      • Again, finish the game doing each and every side mission and DLCs
      • Start over at ME1 as a paragon / badass char.

    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

diskimage-fu, probably worth a black belt:

      Part 1 (in a amd64 VM):

      1. Download blank Raspbian image
      2. Create a blank loop file
      3. Mount both, original image and new image
      4. Create a slightly modified similar partition layout, format partitions
      5. Rsync everything to the new image
      6. Create NFS export from the mounted target
      7. Flash a modified version of the image (just the boot partition including the kernel and a few firmware drivers) to a SD card. Slightly modify the kernel command line to actually mount the root partition ("/") via NFS

Part 2 (on ARM based device)
      8. Fire up your ARM based device with the SD card
      9. Modify image (update packages, install software, purge stuff, modify configs)
      10. Shutdown

      Part 3 (within the VM)
      11. Flush file buffers, un-export, unmount, un-loop & stop NFS server
      12. Flash final image to SD card

      Completely scripted.

My previous plan (using a chroot on an ARM based CPU) worked too, but it was very slow due to the old Banana Pro I had spare. The new version is even cooler because I can run the real environment (incl. the desktop) on real hardware without flashing a full distro to an SD card.

Did I every say that I pretty much hate the Origin client? Got an update yesterday, removing the new UI that was released just a few weeks ago and leaving me with a half-bricked client.

      New "features":

      • No shop
      • Broken startup
      • "Account in use - go offline"
      • "Exit all games before ..."

      Awesome.

      Lifespans.

I knew someone who died at the age of 40 years. He was very sporty (is that actually a word or is the dictionary kidding me?), used his racing bike to get to work (40km per direction) every day and so on. My great-grandfather on the other hand still smoked cigars and pipe at the age of 90.
