    • RE: Gunnar Glasses - Thoughts?

I've thought about it for my home office, but I don't think I could pull off the tint in public/work without getting 90's Matrix cracks.

As far as I know they're just an anti-reflective coating and tint; so you're only getting the light from the monitor and not what's being reflected off of it, and the tint is for more warm visibility (if you don't adjust monitor tint).

Not sure if Hana is dominating. Every large shop I know focused on Hadoop.

I've personally never worked with either, but I've looked at Hadoop recently. I was under the impression that they were like HDD vs SSD's. Larger big-data in-memory type applications were for HANA, and Hadoop was definitely larger scale but more for warehousing and more regular queries?

Regardless i agree that "takes the lead" might've been a bit FOX/CNN.

    • SAP HANA takes the lead on big data

It's been quite obvious SAP-HANA has been dominating on the large-scale enterprise, but it looks like they finally got their "claim to fame" on publicity. Very cool tech regardless, it's always interesting how "big data" is interpreted into meaningful metrics.

@MattKing the DLC is very important. Get the Ultimate Edition on Steam on you will be good to go. The game play is more like Oblivion but it is not open world and the combat is not real time.

The combat can be real time. It can be stop and go or real-time. The harder the game gets, the more stop and go it becomes. So yes and no to your point.

Ahh, see that sounds interesting. Applebee's is far/inconvenient for me and is on a longer timeline, this is something I can manage to check out! 😛

I had an old domain laying around; I transferred everything over to a gmail business account for ~$3-4/month. It's nice because I have complete control over my personal-work, personal, and work google accounts through android when i'm checking calendars, mail, etc.

Rackspace doesn't have all of the bells and whistles but is only $1 per month!

I was looking at that, but then i looked at my android phone and sighed; I want it to sync.

Once Rimu offers CentOS7 next week I'm thinking of moving everything but my O365 work email over to a 100% VPN/OwnCloud setup. Probably just VPN.

I've never played Dragon Age, i might have to pick up a copy. I'm actually sucked into some serious Civ 5 end-game right now trying to come out on top. After that misery is over I'm going to try to play Day Z again (I heard the new patches make it playable), but probably just end up finishing Borderlands 2 and Farcry 3.

GET ALL THE DLC! IT'S A MUST!

      OKAY, JUST STOP YELLING.

I'll have to check it out, not bad for $30 on steam. How's the actual gameplay? I've never actually seen any gameplay other than what i just looked up. It reminds me of an addicting cross between Oblivion and Diablo? maybe?

      @scottalanmiller said:

Yeah. Pretty hypothetical. I think a basic playback history machine is enough for now. Being an aggregator is one thing. Being a "manage your life" thing is another.

Plus, I'm sure there's already a few thousand "manage your online presence" click-baits taking up that niche haha.

    • RE: The Playback Machine

@scottalanmiller That's a good point, I should distinguish between features I would enjoy/understand and ones that are hypothetically possible to actually make it to production-playback-machine. Which, is already in pretty hypothetical territory. 😛

@MattKing Dragon Age is one if the best storytelling ever in a game. Really awesome.

I'll have to check it out, I was just telling AJ I'm waiting for Rimu to roll out CentOS7 in production so I have some time after day-work. Finally.

    • Internet Census '12

Here's the research paper for the 2012 internet-census. Now, obviously nowadays this would be highly illegal considering they placed a small (temp) binary on the devices to help the cause, but still very interesting.

That's a lot more complex. Making a social media management meta application would be tons of work compared to collecting and displaying the data.

My thought process was that I might see something and think "You know, that Myspace comment from 2004 shouldn't exist." and it'd be nice to have a little trashcan icon to take care of it.

@MattKing , went to Applebee's tonight in your honor and had the burger I told you about. Delish! No mudslide though. I was a cheap date for myself tonight. I also went because of friend of mine waits tables there, and so I made sure to leave her a nice tip as well. 🙂

So, I looked it up and the only one is in northwest Houston, but I'm going to make the trip soon! Good man on the tipping, food service is never easy IMO.

Agreed. I found out they make like $2.15/hour from Applebees. The rest is tips. Also, they have to miss minimum wage for two weeks before Applebees recognizes it. Wow...

Make sure you take the survey too. General practice is, if you don't get like 5 surveys a week or something, you're stuck with the crap shifts like Carside to Go, etc. My friend told me she "never has that problem, because [she has] big boobs". Guys don't get that luxury...

That's actually quite the pro-tip! I think I'm going to do the happy hour this weekend, keeping my fingers crossed.
