      @travisdh1 said in Apple Mac Going to ARM RISC:

      Microsoft has traditionally failed at this because they have to support every piece of hardware made for the past 10-15 years.

      And legacy software - Apple just flips their nose at their customers, LOL
      I say that last part somewhat in jest, as a complete NON-mac user, I have no knowledge on what was or wasn't needed to be repurchased after the processor changes.

      Nonsense. Nothing need to be repurchased, unless software developer wishes to charge you for it. And even then you don't have to, you can stick to using existing software, that's what Rosetta 2 is for. Most software devs will provide universal binaries, like was the case after switch from PowerPC to Intel. And if your software is subscription based, you're covered. Apple showed native ARM MS Office and Adobe applications already, both subscription.

      I just wish they had already announced new machines with ARM cpus, my 2012 iMac needs replacement soon. I don't want to invest in obsolete technology.

      https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/admin-guide/security-controls/terminating-ssl-http/

      You're missing ssl in first server block.

      server {
           listen 443 ssl;

      I don't know if it's strictly required, I'd add it.

      That 16GB RAM limit though.... Previous gen Mac Mini went up to 64GB. And no 10Gbit ethernet 😞

    • RE: Best practice security updates linux servers?

      This whole approach of not doing updates on mission critical system is nonsensical. Admins need to grow a set and setup automatic updates on everything by default. If stuff breaks when you update it, that's on software vendor, period.

      Getting ready to head home. Somehow I convinced my wife to rebuild our home storage/media server. That's going to be interesting watching her gut the old one and build a new one.

    • RE: New web site

      Ok, you need to hand over that website to professional web designer, because it looks poorly. If that above screen is correct rendering, then you clearly have no clue what you're doing with it. It does not look professional, so why would anyone want to do business with you after landing on that page.

      Discount block in the center looks like an ad, it feels it's not part of the site.

      And the fact that you want to adjust presentation layer through plugins, and not in css, only validates my criticism above. Even centering the entire thing is one simple rule in css, hint, margin: auto; Hire a professional to do it for you.

      Right. How many of those are top websites? None. Perez Hilton or similar was the Wordpress site with highest amount of traffic. Go figure.

      Just because something is used by masses, it doesn't make it a good choice. It is used by so many, because it doesn't require any expertise to get started.

      Still... not bad for someone without high level certs (CCNA, MS, redhat, etc) and no degree.

      Don't stress over certs or degree. All are useless and quickly obsolete, perhaps only Redhat has a value.

      @dafyre No idea.
      I had outages in September, a few minor ones in October, complete outage 2 days ago, and a few channels last night. And every time Sling claims outages affect small percentage of customers. Too bad I'm in that small percentage every time, despite having better internet connection than probably 99% of US population.

      I love Drupal for this. It’s the most flexible CMF I’ve seen. Here’s a list of F500s that use it. And I know a few cities that use it for their frameworks.

      Add huge majority of .gov websites at any level, and majority of universities. And I almost forgot NASA, Tesla or Space-X.

    • Missing ZFS storage

      I have RAIDZ2 pool of 10x 3TB disks. So I should have about 24TB usable space (or about 21.8TiB). I'm missing 1.66TiB and I can't figure out where. Here's output of zpool list:

      root@storage:/ # zpool list
      NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE EXPANDSZ FRAG CAP DEDUP HEALTH ALTROOT
      bacon 27.2T 22.7T 4.57T - 19% 83% 1.00x ONLINE -

      and here's zfs list:

      root@storage:/ # zfs list
      NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
      bacon 17.3T 2.84T 17.3T /mnt/bacon

      This is on FreeBSD 10.2. All units above are in TiB. No snapshots, no quota, no reservations.

      Total Finder no longer works. Perhaps it's a good thing, I need to get rid of some of the file managers, I just use too many.
      I hope NFS works without issues, I'm rebuilding my storage server this weekend and I'm ready to ditch AFP and SMB.
