Re: New Job @PenguinWrangler no offense, just pissed.

      @penguinwrangler said in New Job:

Just found out that I qualify for partial student loan forgiveness with this new job. Becuase of my divorce and subsequent child support payments I haven't paid off any of my student loan debt. Now I might have up to $63,000 forgiven.

      Student Loan Forgiveness

This is what I don't understand. An education can't be taken back and sold to someone else to recoup money lost.

Why / when did this become an acceptable practice? I've paid off my student loan debt, every god damned penny. If @PenguinWrangler is accurate in possibly being forgiven for $63,000 where the hell does that money come from?

This is a bullshit practice right here. That movie Idiocracy is truly in full force here.

Sorry people, pay your debts! Don't be one of the millions of assholes who say "not my problem" it is your problem and it's why this country is royally screwed.

On windows server 2012 it doesn't work, what can I do?

Which part doesn't work? Also if you're not running at least 2012 R2 I don't want to help.

@pete-s I guess, still seems like "participation trophies". I'm at the point where I'd rather just have the cash or time off and not deal with this kind of game.

It's not a participation trophy, because everyone gets a participation trophy. This is actually earned, and the acknowledgement is worth it to company and to employees.

It is to a participation trophy, because you're paid to do a job, this simply acknowledges that you went above and beyond with some pictures or whatever.

The bonus, which is completely normal and common practice is what IMO should matter to the employee who gets these Participation Trophies.

I think you must find these to be important, why else would you defend the practice?

To top it off, there are only a handful of replies, so it is not hard to read the entire damn thread!!

No, I'm saying that whether right or wrong is irrelevant. That it happened is what matters. Deciding if it happened accidentally or on purpose is a different discussion. Things that happen on accident doesn't make them not have happened.

Either my boss is having a really bad day and just cant handle it or he is upset that I fixed an issue that he was helping me on and I may or may not have blatantly ignored his suggestion .. although at this point I couldn't tell you.. But what I do know, is I feel pretty good that i got this working and completely fixed.

@wrcombs said in What Are You Doing Right Now:

      /Sigh.
FML . Boss lady had a Coin Changer in her office for over 1 year. She gave it to me maybe a month ago. I had the coin changer working on the POS system Lab I have in the office in 45 minutes total (this was 2 weeks ago) so I did some documentation on it and passed it on to the tech i was working with.
We sent them a new cable to put on their existing Coin Changer (same POS system as my lab), 2 weeks ago, Apparently this call was passed onto me without me being on the email that passed the buck to me.
So now I'm putting out a fire on a client I've never worked with directly while taking the responsibility for this issue cause the other tech stopped responding to emails..
am I wrong to be Pissed off at this? - Maybe I'm over reacting to it. .

Why is your boss upset? Because the issue took 2 weeks with the previous person working on it and simply ghosted the customer?

Or because you were able to get the issue resolved?

In any scenario if you're still working for that crappy company, why haven't you worked to get let go and collect unemployment while you get a better job?

Without more experience or information it is difficult to draw an exact conclusion, but have you considered that he is on the autism spectrum? Some of the things that you're listing could be indicators of that. There are significant differences to how you will work with someone on the spectrum vs someone who just has control issues.

This sounds a lot like my co-worker, who I am pretty sure is on the spectrum. He is amazing technically, reading comprehension of technical documentation that is out of this world. But he can't think in terms of business needs and what is practical. He will also assume he knows what you're saying without listen so you really have to watch for cues that the didn't actually understand what you said. Also can be a lot of work to convince him he is wrong, you need to have definitive proof ready.

Or he will have no memory of where he got information from, so he will explain something to you that was actually something you told him

I didn't realize we worked together. Chalk that up to my bad memory

she wants to see what I can do.

Then purchase 2019 and cals for it, if you want to downgrade (for whatever requirement) then you can do that. But setup Hyper-V on the hardware (assuming it has to look like Windows) with a GUI and then create a VM to run the site.

Honestly, I have never worked at a single company where IT supports printers, other than initial setups.

Must be fucking nice that the accountants are installing toner and removing paper jams.

Smart accountants know that IT handling printers is a waste of fucking money. Why pay someone $100k+ a year and have them work on printers?

Really - it shouldn't be IT fixing it, I think Scott would say that's Bench's job... and while some DC bench techs can make $100K/yr... most are probably more in the 30-60K range.

Do you consider yourself bench/IT or some combination? Don't you work at a place where you'd fill all of these gaps? Would you want Frank the tank ripping paper jams out the printers you support and potentially making a bigger issue of it? Costing more money by said printer being offline.

I dont give a F about Frank or his printer because the printer is under contract. He can call the printer contract vendor and they will send someone out

Again, we weren't and aren't discussing printers that have a a maintenance contract if someone from that business is ordering supplies. God you're a moron.

Wtf are you talking about the thread is literally about a service contract which means they replace toner

What is a "Real server" to your boss? A physical installation? If so, setup Hyper-V and then build your installation on it. It's a real server, configured how it should be configured.
