    • Citrix XenServer EULA - is it gone

      So from another topic, the discussion of Hypervisor EULA's and audits came up. So I wanted to search for Citrix's EULA for XenServer and I couldn't find one easily. Maybe i just missed it. But this is what I found.

      XenServer isn't mentioned at all here. So presumably Citrix won't or can't audit for XenServer (since now it's completely open source).

      Is that correct?

      Me: I just ordered that vehicle that you wanted.
      Boss: How did you know which one to order, we didn't discuss what it was used for.
      Me: I just got a standard snowmobile, even if it is wrong, it's kinda close, right?

      I'm ripping into the guy right now on SW. That's unforgivable to blunder into a purchase like that.

    • XenServer Community Edition versus Enterprise

      FYI I hate now that this XS7 release has dropped that everyone is saying "Enterprise and Community Editions". Who honestly isn't going to be using the "community edition"?

      But you need the Enterprise edition to get the "added" features

      You're missing what I'm saying. There is no difference between XenServer "Basic" and the Enterprise edition. Citrix is no longer developing their own version.

      The linux foundation is developing the entire XS system. Which means everything in the Enterprise edition is available in the community edition.

      Ok, I hear you.

      1. How is Citrix able to "add" features to the Enterprise edition?
      2. Are the download bits for the Community edition different from the Citrix edition?
      1. They've released their own version with the "Enterprise" featues. Much like you or I could release our own version of Ubuntu.

      2. They most certainly are different because Citrix has rolled their own ISO of the XenServer media. With those features baked in.

      Neither of the above stops someone (Linux Foundation) from releasing the same exact identical ISO's for use by the public.

      Look at Chapter 3 on page 5 of this pdf
      https://docs.citrix.com/content/dam/docs/en-us/xenserver/xenserver-7-0/downloads/xenserver-7-0-installation-guide.pdf

      That is the Citrix supported version which is XenServer, which is completely open source. And has access to all of the features mentioned in the documentation you've listed.

      @Breffni-Potter

      XenServer with the "enhanced" features like "Auto-updating Windows drivers, the Direct Inspect API & SMB support etc" is not free

      XenServer is completely open source, there is nothing to be "locked away". Can you provide some evidence to the contrary?

      Something that people need to understand... this is Europe, not the US. Putting a dog on a leash is an unusual thing here. Dogs in the road is very common, you have to avoid them when driving. Cattle, kids, goats, chickens, horses, carts... all common. Drivers need to be more alert. It's hard to avoid everything, but it isn't the US where you assume that it is the job of people to keep animals off of the road, the assumption is that drivers need to avoid all things in the road.

      Well that changes things severely.

      Why does that change the scenario? Why is the geographic location of the event important?

      Because Scott said so....

      So you skirted my response to you about being able to take the owner/dog to an emergency clinic.

      I get the joke about Scott, but let's get back to the topic at hand

      I'm done. I gave my opinion you gave yours. What else is there to say?

      I don't want you to say anything other than what is in your head.

      If you think all animals are worthless and stopping to see if there is anything you can do to help is below you then so be it.

      But don't act surprised if someone runs you or your child over and doesn't stop either. You essentially expect it from your previous statement.

      You've used 3 totally different scenarios interchangeably in your argument.

      1. Hitting a dog with a vehicle.

      2. Hitting a child with a vehicle .

      3. Hitting another vehicle with a vehicle.

      None of those 3 are even close to being the same thing.

      They all carry your responsibility of being a human adult of checking out how bad the situation is and not driving off as if nothing occurred.

      Even if you aren't at fault for the dog being in the walk way, you still have to stop and see what the hell happened.

      If you hit a kid, you get some explaining to do and a high possibility of legal issues. Hitting a dog with a car isn't illegal as far as I know.

      If I hit a dog or cat, I would stop to see if it's ok. Things get a little more difficult when the owners are present. You have no clue how they are going to react and stopping may turn into a fist fight or big affair. You never really know how they are going to react to the situation. You can't go back in time and change the outcome and the owners are obviously going to do what they can for the animal? So my question is what does stopping do if the owners are present? nothing

      Stopping is the legal thing to do, at least in the states. So @IRJ do you stop when you accidentally bump someones car with your car while you're driving?

      <sarcastic tone>
      I mean come on the damage is done, and they're adults so they can take care of it right?
      </st>

      What possible help can you offer? you are driving at night and all the sudden a child runs out in front of you. boom you hit it. It isnt your fault, but now you stop and all the sudden you have a confrontation.

      I replaced dog with child. Tell me how you aren't responsible enough to stop in this case. Honestly.

      Once again they aren't even close to the same thing.

      Do children not need hospital service when they get hit by a car?

      Again that is totally different than hitting an animal. You are really out in left field with these comparisons

      Left field my ass. Let someone run over your dog with their car and see if you don't want to find out who did it.

      That's my point @aaronstuder, if you cause property damage you have to stop.

      Dogs are property, that is alive.

      So why does @IRJ think it's ok to keep going on with his day?

      @jrc The Xen Orchestra website would be the best if you need specifics, but XO is very much a full management tool for Xen/xenServer.

      It has Delta backup capabilities, CR, Full, Disaster Recovery just to name a few features.

      @olivier is the main developer and he could better answer those questions.
