@ajstringham I bet that it's because the Unitrends box can't do secure POP, only insecure POP. It all hinges on the fact that Unitrends probably doesn't have the features installed to allow TLS connections.

Unitrends has no reason to use POP. It doesn't receive email. Only sends out reports.

Which leads to something I've never really understood. When using POP/SMTP clients, SMTP is used to send the email to a local(ish) server. Why can't the client send directly to the receiving side? This implies some sort of difference in client SMTP vs Server SMTP.

      ??

Positive reinforcement, just like with cats.

You have to ignore then when they potty in the wrong place, ignore as in not get mad or show any emotion at all.. simply place them back on their perch...
Now, the time consuming part - you must watch them. When you see them potty on the perch you need to shower them with attention and praise. After anywhere from a few days to a few weeks they will come to understand that pottying on the perch is a good thing.. you need to praise them everytime you see them potty on the perch for the first week or two.. then drop every third or fourth praise, slowly weaning down to none, but you must do the weaning randomly - this is how you break their need/desire for praise to them pottying on the perch. Eventually they will want to go to the perch when they want to potty - and now it's up to you to be mindful of them... if they start getting ansty take them to the perch.. they probably want to potty, if they don't go after 30 seconds or so.. continue with what you were doing...
paying attention to them so I understood they needed to potty was probably the hardest part on me... I got bit more than a few times because I wanted to keep playing and they had to go!

Scott, what do you mean disable security? Surely Office 365 does not require TLS for email?
Do you mean that the Unitrends can't act as a client of O365 because it can't send via TLS? So the disabling of security in an on premise Exchange setup you mean to say that you have to allow unauthenticated (or at least plain text authentication) for on prem to work?

How is Bitcoin plagued with crooks? The exchanges are suffering technical difficulties sure enough, but that's not any different than a bank that has your money. It's not like your bank has a box in the back with your name on it that holds all of the money you currently own, it's all digital. I'm not really sure the problems behind Mt Gox, but exchanges will get their security resolved just like most banks can/have.

@Dashrender I am not sure about that but if it's on port 25 that would indicate to me it's off by default. FWIW

By your own discoveries and what @scottalanmiller has said - it does not appear the unitrends box even supports it at all. So I'm sure you're right - it's off because it's not there 😛

@scottalanmiller I think your point about turning on TLS is valid. I need to see if there is a way to do that. These all seem like really easy things to just make easier. An input box on the settings page for SMTP that allows you to specify the port number and set TLS as enabled/disabled would not be that hard...

Really? You shouldn't have to enable it - it SHOULD be enabled by default to try it first - if it fails than go to non TLS. It's not like most mail servers aren't using TLS on a standard port (those that support it).

For some reason your post is showing greyed out - did you delete it @ajstringham ?

Anyway, like Richard said, a few years back Webroot threw everything out and started from scratch with cloud antivirus. It was a bold move but payed off, obviously.

I agree.. the new product they have seems very nice.

@Dashrender You may be able to add another repo to pull it from. I believe the .repo files go in /etc/yum.repos.d/ if I remember right.

They do but you might as well run Fedora if you are going to go down this route. Running CentOS this way would be foolish.

Why would running CentOS this way be foolish?

Beautiful bird! I love parrots, but don't like cleaning up after them. My roommate in NY had a cockatiel named Kramer that used to poop all over the apartment. 😞

You can train them pretty easily to go mainly on their cage. it's not fool proof, but 80% or more.

It might be helpful for other people like myself that find and use your guide to install Mediawiki on CentOS if you add

Yum list 'mediawiki*' so people can find the name of the current version. *but now that I run it, it appears that yum does not have the current version 1.22.3

MySQL is a database. It needs it's own credentials. Same as SQL Server or Oracle or whatever.

I was more concerned over the fact that it appeared to be asking me to login as root to start the install of SQL, but then seemed to allow me to bypass it..
but again, maybe I just typed the password in and don't recall, and typed it in correctly the third time.
