    • RE: Ethics food for thought: Considering a possible side gig

I moonlight on the side for 2 business, I made them vary aware of what all my limitations would be since I have a full-time job. I have helped both of them move into new locations since then. It took alot of after hours work and planning to make sure they knew exactly what was needed to be communicated to the contractors hired to do the cabling etc.

I feel as long as you and them are fully aware of the limitations and are fine with them go for it.

    • RE: Reasons Against a Refurbished Server for This?

I would go refurb. You may look at dfs-r and replicate files back to HQ for backup.

    • RE: Is There No Base of IT Knowledge?

I think what leads to roles being all over the place is IT people usually are very good at troubleshooting so they can go up to a problem with little prior knowledge and figure out what and how it is supposed to work and what could be causing it not to. Along with that (at least from personal experience) we don't have a fear of breaking stuff further, so we're inclined to dig into it further to find the issue.

Also, IT people tend to learn things by themselves very well and are always learning something new. At my job, I hear people talking about an issue that isn't necessarily an IT issue, but I always end up helping out which leads me to do things that would fall out of my normal job description.

    • RE: UniFi Cloud Key

@Breffni-Potter No. Just would like one if I need to change things, but I shouldn't really need to. That is how I ended up setting it up, ran the controller on my laptop, setup the ap, then shut off the controller.
