Things to consider if you do this yourself, once you disable a device if you don't enable it again, it will remain disabled in device manager between subsequent removal/installation.

So it's critical to enable any disabled devices after the fact, or you'll have to manually enable the device through device manager.

Would this work for you? Much smaller, and still POE - just need to set the port to 48v

@Pete-S said in Home Security Systems using WyzeCam and PoE Splitters:

There are so many real surveillance cameras for little money that are made for the purpose already. For instance this outdoor model for less than $30:

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hikvision-DS-2CE16D0T-IRF-HD-1080P-IR-20m-IP66-2MP-Bullet-camera-outdoor/264073885252

To get real coverage you need different lenses in different applications and indoor and outdoor options as well. Installing cameras, wiring it all up and installing software and having storage, backups etc and keeping everything running is too much work to save a few bucks.

The hikvision cameras apparently are utter crap and worth avoiding.

I put a regular 2.5" SSD in an USB3 enclosure years ago to get several hundreds MB/sec.

Today maybe a portable SSD drive would a great thing to buy instead of inventing the wheel. Like Samsung T5 below.

@black3dynamite I've not seen that happen. This is every time?

It happened twice so far with the same USB.

Try another USB, maybe there is something wrong with that one?

Well, I'm glad that's been cleared up. You can probably delete the thread now 🙂

I don't even know what the original thread was!

And that is why you have no concept of what you posted being completely wrong for the context of the thread.

Honestly, it is pretty straight forward if you read the first post.
      https://mangolassi.it/topic/13595/out-of-band-management-does-it-mean-no-keyboard-at-all

The first post also contains links back to the thread that @DustinB3403 pulled this from.

I was responding the post quoted, though.

Which was in the context of the entire thread. If you want to cherry pick something, then clearly, state as much. You did not.

So I cloned on a system that isn't critical, and when I try to boot off of the clone that is what I get.

      Any ideas?

As to a two-sever pool, interestingly Ive been working with SC at HA-Lizard over the last few weeks and we've come up with a better way (I think) to support a two-server pool. I've done a lot of torture testing and think there will be a more robust implementation in the near future. I'm particularly interested in that we now have several two-server pools and there is no need to expand just for the sake of supporting HA. Stay tuned for more news on this! For HA to work, you'd still of course need shared pool storage.

Can I just plug this bootable into any old desktop and see if it'll light up? Should I expect any issues?

Can you, yes 🙂 It won't damage anything. Will it work? Not likely. You can't do this with any other OS or hypervisor, you can't do it with Xen either. That's why Xen has to be installed rather than there just being an image that you run. The installation process is the process of customizing it for your hardware.

At the moment I can access the NFS Share using WinSCP, and copy from the NFS Share to my windows PC without issue, but I don't believe I can schedule this.

      With PuTTY you can.

      Care to elaborate?

PuTTY comes with a command line SCP client.

I never noticed / knew that!

Took me like a decade or so before someone pointed it out to me recently too 🙂

      Hey Joel,

Have you considered a USB over IP type product? I've just been made aware of them and haven't had a chance to use one yet... but basically it is a USB connection with a Network card, and whatever server you want to use it has to run a software package to do so...

It's worth taking a look at.

Interesting product. What a great idea.

It uses usb for power, and esata for data.

      Nice.. find, thanks.

notice it says SSD, not even 2.5 in drives.

You can buy standard USB enclosures for 2.5" drives and they never need external power.

when I posted that it I was responding to the title of the sale indicating SSD - so I jumped the gun a bit on the 2.5.. my bad.

@thecreativeone91 Ditto, though I recall one particular intel chipset (945? low end P4 skt468/775) that would consistently barf when this was attempted.
