I've used it a couple of times, but since I started using the DC series of drives it's pointless. Only for their consumer class drives. It's great for firmware and secure erase if you have a compatible drive.

I put a regular 2.5" SSD in an USB3 enclosure years ago to get several hundreds MB/sec.

Today maybe a portable SSD drive would a great thing to buy instead of inventing the wheel. Like Samsung T5 below.

I've been telling people this sort of thing is what to expect for the future of computing solutions for some years now.

Not sure this is the device that will make it catch on but we are ever closer to it being a truly useful option.

You need a faraday cage for these things!

Or just don't connect them to the internet, at least. My current TV has never been online, lol.

Edit: This probably means that it has hacked my WiFi and is online without telling me by now.

Time to check the DHCP leases.

I don't understand why they didn't do it like the Lumia 950xl... iris scanner. Infrared to light up the eyes, another to take the pic.

they also have it! fingerprint, face, iris, pin, sequence... they only miss the list of things in your fridge πŸ˜›

Then how can a regular picture fool it? Seems like a software issue and not hardware.

I mean: you can either auth yourself via face or any other solution. Samsung AFAIK doesn't implement so named pure biometric 2 factor-auth. You have just to avoid face and fingerprint (as it is too close to camera). just use iris or sequence/pin...

I own a xiaomi redmi 4 and to be honest rear-fingerprint scanners are a bit of a pain... I alternate fingerprint to sequences...

Yeah but really it's likely not the device. It's USB-C quick Charing and people using Chinese cables and chargers. With USB-C the protection is built into the cable. These a much higher amp charging that normal.

I have my recalled Note 7. Verizon received them yesterday and shipped me one overnight. All things considered, despite the fact the flawed Note 7's should have never been released, I think Samsung has handled this fairly well.

I even have a "green" battery indicator so make it easy to identify the fixed model over the bad ones. πŸ™‚

Ended up revising my approach to the whole configuration. I bought an SM951 128GB for the caching device and grabbed a pair of seagate 2TB drives and put them in an md raid 10. Random 4k inside one of the VMs averages between 12,000 and 20,000 write depending on queue depth. This seems low given that the SM951 is rated really high, can bcache be tuned to increase the dirty cache for random io?

I did manage to find a setting for sequential which pushed it up to 1GB/s.

In the interest of reliability and compatibility, we opted to only support enterprise level SSDs. We actually only recently supported non-Dell drives because of those same reasons. We started talking with Edge and found a partner who would co-developer firmware to limit the risk to our customers. If Dell makes a firmware change, we didn't want our customers to experience any issues with their drives.

That what made me reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally nervous about non-DELL drives.

Not that anything would happen, but the last thing you need is some change form DELL and then your drives stop working, or booting.

Total BS that they do that, but whatever. It's their company and there are other options.
