@scottalanmiller I wasn't referring to sleep mode. Windows use to have varying degrees of shutdown, I'm pretty sure it still does.

I have a standard Dell USB dock but want to use it with a Fedora 29 user.

      https://github.com/displaylink-rpm/displaylink-rpm

That repo has a pull request in for the Fedora 29 updates, but I figured I could build it early for testing. Also I want to get more familiar with doing this on Linux in general.

I have no *devel bits installed on my system. Obviously, I can clone it down and run make, but I wonder if I need any other resources?

Inside the "ci" folder there is a script to let fedora downlad everything and compile via makefile

      That did it.

Could something like this or similar be supplemental?

      Seems pretty silly.

      So here is the question....

What threat do you perceive there being? How do you feel this device addresses that thread?

I don't really see any threat in the first place, and so that makes it extra hard to know how to assuage your fears. But how this device is supposed to help, I'm really unsure.

Everyone is always waiting for someone else to report bugs and issues, that's why they take so long to get fixed. Not as bad with FOSS, but a big reason with MS for example.

But I don't know that it is a bug. It's reasonable that it might be, but it's just one possibility.

I found this site to be very helpful.
      https://negativo17.org/bluray-playback-and-ripping-on-fedora-aacs-bd-bd-j/

There is also a libbluray-bdj package in the main fedora repo. I have no installed it yet. If the next BluRay I watch has a problem, I will maybe try those settings.

Got it, had Nginx proxying on port 80 instead of 443. Not a big deal as it was on the back side, but it didn't like the headers.

That was going to be what I told you to check had I seen this sooner.

Did you look at one of my example config’s and see what was different because I also proxy this on port 80 on the backend.

Try another USB, maybe there is something wrong with that one?

Maybe it is my Windows virtual machine!

I always fix my KVM to use /home/virtualmachines for the VMs. 🙂

I decided to delete it. I am able to RDP into Windows if I need it anyway. My total disk size is only 128GB. So I dont really have room for a 30GB VM anyway.

How can I do full disk encryption post installation on Fedora?

Do you need encryption on the OS for some reason? General you'd just encrypt /home. That assumes the system is secured properly in the first place.

I don't know how to enable full day of encryption after installation of the top of my head. Reinstalling is really easy tho, just backup and restore /home. All you're settings should persist with just that, and reinstalling you're programs is easy and quick as well.

hmmm... So no real reason to encrypt the OS? If my laptop is lost, and a someone resets password, will they be able to access my home directory?

No, that's the point of encryption.

So just encrypting the home directory will accomplish what I need?

      Yes.

Normally I think everyone uses the built in encryption instead.

I'm not familiar with that, and will it work cross platform?

      No, it's full disk.

Not looking for - nor do I currently need FDE -

That's why no one uses VeraCrypt, though. Full disk is built in and just a check box.

The daemom is written in python and takes forever to rebuild the db if you restart it… I had ~1Tb in 2 millions of files. The thing is, it keeps track of the file chunks of every files… sort of joins object storage and file storage together. Very bandwith efficent, but horrible on cpu and I/O. I switched to nextcloud that lacks that feature, but it’s much faster and flexible.

If you start over with a new system so you still get notifications of old certs expiring? Aren't these handled at the domain level so it knows that a new system has a newer cert? Honestly asking since I haven't run into this yet.

No. It is handled on the cert serial number level.

      Ah ok.

I've moved things in the past by simply reissuing on the new server, and dealing with the expiring certs is an annoyance.
