This is not the case at home, but has definitely been my experience when roaming around town.. it used to be worth connecting to something like StarBucks WiFi, but now - StarBucks is nearly useless, and Cellular data is way better.

Depends really. I travel enough regionally to have learned where it is better to hit WiFi and where it is better to tether to my mobile.

d appear in the softkey row, which would then reveal a record button. But it makes sense that type record wouldn't do the

This whole notion that the phone is it's own system is what's frustrating to me personally.

DND on the phone is not DND on the PBX (in fact I have no idea what the PBX sees in that case - I'd guess it sees the phone simply busy).
But this is not what a company with an phone admins/operators would want. For example, in my case, my company wants the operators to be able to remove DND from a phone at the operators choosing. But in the case where the phone is DND'ed, they can't do that.
This type of stuff leads to split brain thinking - where is the problem? oh yeah - duh, I'm an idiot and I setup DND on the phone, and then didn't program a button on the phone to use the DTMF function of the PBX to set DND status.

    Yep I'm just bitchin'.

That's always been there, even with analogue phones. Just most people didn't buy phones that powerful.

Of course analogue phones could be that way, any type of device could be. Heck my old home analogue phone had a contact list feature. But my home phone service never did, so it was never a conflict.

Psst - I do believe that some home phone analogue providers did offer phone system based contact lists/quick dialing.

It was all in your PBX. An analogue PBX could have all these same options.

uh what? my home phone was in my PBX?

You PBX was the CO in this case.

Sure, for the second option I mentioned, but in the case of my phone having a contact list, that had nothing to do with the CO or a PBX, it was all inside my phone at home. Oh, yeah, I said all of this already.

The PBX for your phone at home is the CO. This is not a hard concept. The CO has all these features too.

So yes. your home phone always had this functionality.

I usually take the local express bus from the airport to my hotel when I come into town. But then I take a taxi on the leaving day because hang over.

Last year at MC I took the stupid 5AM shuttle back to the airport with a hangover. It was awful.

    Right @ChrisL ????

After reading this thread I have to say that Scott's argument was more compelling. Let me tell you why.
1.) I was a prison guard for 6 years. I always assume people are not telling the truth.
2.) I now work with attorneys which has taught me if something is left vague, it is not for my benefit.
3.) Also because of the attorneys, people will use doublespeak which will result in them implying one thing but actually meaning the opposite.
Which boils down to the fact that you have to always ask questions, even if they are obvious and nail people down to what they exactly mean. You are the only person that can look out for you.

4.) Always get answers and explanations in writing. -- potentially even if you don't feel a need to CYA.

Always do number four when money or relatives are involved. Especially if both are involved.

    @Dashrender @JaredBusch

Of course that's true - but you have important data on a machine? no backups? or just don't want to deal with restoring the data?

We do have backups done on a regular interval via the help of SaltStack.

again not every situation is similar situation to the usual places you guys work, I work with MSF France as an I.T Supervisor in a hospital, where the users need to be mobile and work in locations at camps offline. and Central Authentication system can do more harm than good, and we have a lot of policies and rules to maneuver around.

trust me Jared you wont be able to survive here. it is way out of your comfort zone with everything ready for you in place and having a big budget for everything. Here I.T budget has to be shared with the Yemeni crisis and you can imagine where will the money will always go to. So we have to live and operate with what we have and do the best with it.

Oh and before suggesting something clever, that you assume I have not thought about already, We cant use cloud services in MSFF.

Sooo basically its still just Windows server but with a lossely added Ubuntu layer that cant do anything?

Id agree running a VM would make more sense at that point.

Yup. It's a bit of a joke. It makes Windows users feel like they are getting Linux even when there is no Linux there at all and nothing usefully to be done with it. It also doesn't perform up to par, not that you would expect it to. It's a really bad idea. Maybe it is a precursor to something useful, but I'm not holding my breath.

@bnrstnr said in Every other post on here is about Sodium...:

@quixoticjeremy yours is about the only one. Anybody joining the community has no idea what SAM has vested interest in. Everybody here suggests products, it would be much better to be able to tell who sells what they're promoting. I can't remember the name of the company, but the WordPress provider convo last week was ridiculously long and heated trying to figure out the truth, when in fact it could have all been easily avoided if there was somewhere that listed who sells what...

Well no, not in that case. If you looked, there was no recommendation. That was a disgruntled ex-community member making things up to make trouble. The "making recommendations" part of was made up. That the web host wasn't public yet was the issue and I had made a joke about it and he seized on the fact that it was mentioned to try to make it look like I was making loads of recommendations (he never produced any) and that I was hiding something (I was, I was hiding the company completely because the website wasn't even done yet.) So that would not resolve issues like, unfortuantely.

Funny enough, that Hostadillo thread was going on during a Sodium announcement.

What would have been handy would have been if the person making the fake accounts had said who they were. That was the actual part that was hidden. They were using a VPN to hide their location and make fake accounts under fake names and never admitted who they were. That's the bigger issue, really, that they had someone making false claims (he / she claimed to work for Grove Social in the past, but had not) and never admitted who they were or who they represented.

I do a fare amount of international shipping. Several South American countries use middle shippers in Florida to shuttle things back and forth due to super long shipping times and lost mail issue.

I'm lucky since I know most parties involved, so there is nearly zero risk to me.

I was a professional guitarist (classical) and trombonist (ensemble and jazz) at one point. It was great and I loved it, but it took so much of my time. While I enjoy it a lot, I don't enjoy it more than my career stuff. But one pays the bills and one does not, so it is an important trade off. Once upon a time I played guitar to pay the bills and had to play over six hours a day. Was fun, but that's why I have carpal tunnel now.
