Never seen that before. Well done! What level is it for? High school or is that a professional competition?

I thought vendors were supposed to buy ads on this site....

Nope, they are allowed to of course. But ads are purely optional. The self promotion group is here so that vendors big and small and even open source vendors with absolutely zero budget can get the word out. Of course only in self promotion so that it is clear that it is a free "ad" of some sort and no spam. Ads are different and run on the side or bottom and are not free, but also not a requirement.

Part of the mission of MangoLassi / RepublicOfIT is to guarantee open access to vendors without having to pay to play. The requirement of paying to participate so that only large vendors willing to invest in a platform would get a voice to end users or customers was specifically one of the problems we saw in other communities and were adamant about avoiding.

A blog where I randomly post about issues that I face. Rule of thumb if I face it twice better post it on the blog amarendrasingh dordle.

I shall sometimes put down on paper the challenges that I am now confronting. As a general guideline, I should definitely write about anything on the blog if it's something that I've encountered twice because it demonstrates that I'm competent in the topic.

If you google search how to make a techie buy your _____ brand or product or service

The article on darait.co.uk is top of the search. Somehow no one else has written about this with those keywords before. Really surprised.

This link was SO successful, they took the entire site down. jaja

Nice video, but I ran into quite a pet peeve. I would like to point out I wholly disagree with Allen's definition of "cloud" about 15 mins in... that, as he says, "it's just somebody else's server... just means the server is hosted somewhere online over the internet".

I know. He always does the "tee shirt definition" rather than the real one. It's because vet customers can't even begin to understand cloud and all the cloud vendors in the industry aren't using cloud but just using it as a proxy for hosted.

That's a horrible thing to tell customers and in no way whatsoever does anything for the customer except misinformes them and solidifies their misunderstanding of cloud and why it's used. That basically tells the client cloud is if you want something off prem and over the internet. That couldn't be any further from what it is and why it could be beneficial or not to them. Yall are straight up reinforcing myths by saying that.

@scottalanmiller Yes. This I know. But this isn't bare metal but rather SmartOS hypervisor in a Triton datacenter. So I presume all is atop ZFS. I never delved deeper so honestly do not know.

Hopefully not, as ZFS isn't all that fast. But you need XFS touching WiredTiger... what's lower in the stack isn't what it is concerned with. You still control your own filesystem regardless of what the datacenter may or may not use elsewhere.

@scottalanmiller I don't know how new any of this is, but I'm really digging the transitions and logo stuff you got going on. It's got the RGB feel to it, but not over the top.

All that stuff is done by our marketing team in La Paz!

I'm liking these non-IT technician focused videos.

Thanks! I'm hoping to broaden the audience and make tools that IT staff can either use directly by sharing with management or learn from on how to present to management.

Far too often IT is pressured to make business decisions that other business stakeholders should be involved in.

And vice versa, tons of times untrained people with no IT insight or knowledge make all the critical IT decisions and just have the staff classified as IT deal with the mistakes rather than avoiding them.

Movie looks good too. You have way too much head room though in your framing.
Just angle the camera down slightly so your eyes are above the center of the frame.
It'll look more professional that way.

Thanks, I switched to the media attachment on the GoPro Hero Black 9 so still getting used to that. Overall it seems to work okay, and having a room full of lights helps a lot. But still a bit of learning curve.

My only issue with Ubiquiti is commitment. Products seem to come and go. While I understand not pumping resources into a bad idea, maybe "slow the roll" a bit before showing the masses what you have.
Portfolio expansion is ok, IFF their core products do not suffer as a result.

Man, I'd also like to seem them pump more dev into their Unifi firewalls... Though that ship might have sailed, I think they are going a different route (new OS) for their newer firewalls...

      New OS, new hardware.
