RE: Packet loss when connected to L2TP/IPsec VPnposted in IT Discussion
@Romo said in Packet loss when connected to L2TP/IPsec VPn:
So two further days of usage and the vpn has been working properly again. At the end the day, I had reverted back to original settings so everything just apparently started to work back on its own??
Really not sure what was causing the issue.
That is irritating that you don't know for sure what the fix was. Hopefully, it remains solid.

If you're not sure where to start at all, this site is a great starting off point: https://pcpartpicker.com/.
Used this a few times. Great for pricing and compatibility.

RE: ZeroTier vs VPNposted in IT Discussion
@Kelly said in ZeroTier vs VPN:
In the strictest sense ZT is a VPN. It is just a one to one IaaS that is routed through the cloud on ZT's systems instead of your edge. You can achieve the same effective security through rules on most VPN servers. ZT just makes it simpler, and reduces your ongoing effort assuming that 1 to 1 or 1 to few is your primary access model.
I am pretty sure that it doesn't actually route the traffic through their systems. It only brokers the connections. If their system goes down, your systems will remain connected until you lose connectivity for another reason; like if you power down or disconnect from the internet.
And, that is all predicated upon you using their service to provide the broker. If you have your own connection broker, then it has nothing to do with their systems at all.

I sometimes have to add
--timeout 60so I can see a response
salt FP01.domain.local test.ping --timeout 60Seems to be working. I think that it was the firewall needing the exception AND using the
--timeout 60Thanks!

RE: Salt - Can't Connect to Minions After Adding Them to Masterposted in IT Discussion
@black3dynamite OK. I will try that. I also had a weird thing where I disabled the Windows firewall on a Server 2016 VM and it started working. I re-enabled the firewall, and it continued to work. I restarted the salt minion service and then it stopped responding to the ping.
Server 2012 R2, disabled firewall and restarted salt minion service. No response.

Salt - Can't Connect to Minions After Adding Them to Masterposted in IT Discussion
I am able to add the minions and accept the key on the master. If I try to run any commands against my Windows servers, I get a time out. For instance
salt FP01.domain.local test.ping FP01.ava.local: Minion did not return. [No response] ERROR: Minions returned with non-zero exit codeHowever, it works on some windows desktops I am testing.
The salt service is running and I have disabled the Windows firewall and the AV and it still won't work. Where should I go from here?

RE: ZeroTier vs VPNposted in IT Discussion
@Romo said in ZeroTier vs VPN:
Considering this use case:
Remote users wanting to RDP into
- Main Server (this will really be the main place to connect)
- Accounting user's pc
- Owner's pc
When would using ZeroTier be a better idea than setting up a remote access VPN (L2TP/IPSec)? Would this case be a proper case to use it considering the whole lan is not necessary to be accessible?
What are your opinions about this
What is on the Main server?
Are you going to use RDP to connect to these systems? -
RE: Phishing testing / awareness / training suggestions?posted in IT Discussion
Yeah, I looked it up. Last year, I paid $1312 for 101 users for the Gold tier of KnowBe4.
-
RE: Phishing testing / awareness / training suggestions?posted in IT Discussion
That Knowbe4 pricing seems like you went for a top tier. You can get training and phish testing in the lower tiers.

Also, could this be an MTU settings issue? I know they're rare... but that was the first thing that popped into my mind.
Was inded thinking about playing with the MTU, just now sure why it wouldn't on ATT. It is currently set for 1492
UVerse? Then your service is PPPoE. You likely need to lower the MTU to account for it.
Also If UVerse, you are screwed in your router options.
I haven't dealt with PPPoE since I stopped using DSL 12 years ago.

I'm assuming that the performance outside the VPN connection is fine, right?

That is weird. Have you disabled and re-enabled the tunnel?

I spin up a new instance whenever I need to use it and then delete the instance again. SO I have no ongoing costs as I only need it a few times per month.
I like that idea.

Do you guys use their VM level backup service. If you do, how do you like it?
Using backups for 2 Fedora servers running Squid. I haven't restored yet, as they are still new and in testing. I will be trying that prior to putting into production. I also use the snapshots. Those, I can say, work well. I have used them as a sort of cloning function to create an additional server.

So we use Microsoft visual C++ 2005,2008,2010,2012 Redistributable.
We have 4 of each in the programs and features4 of each? Usually, you would have x64 and x86.
okay, not 4 of each. here: ill show you.

OK. Those are just different versions. Some programs "require" a specific version. I have run into issues where I have 2013 installed and the program won't install. I need to uninstall that version of the runtime and let the program install the version the installer comes with.
gotcha gotcha.
so it's very much possible that we need all of these. It is possible. It is also possible that some are no longer needed. However, I would be surprised if those are the cause.

PostgreSQL really shines for giant ones
@wrx7m this is why there is "less" information out there. There are fewer people doing things that need it. Thus it is used less. Thus less public info.
On the other hand, there is likely less shit info "out there" for it too..
LOL. That is also a good point about there being less shit info out there.
