    • RE: Office 365 ProPlus in non-dedicated hardware hosted environment

Per my VAR, shared activation is available on any ProPlus subscription (ProPlus, E3 or E5). All users that are going to use the shared system have to be licensed with a ProPlus subscription for it to work. I am going to have to go this route to use RDS for our ERP software, which requires Microsoft Excel for exporting certain reports/info. Since we have business premium for 99% of our users, we will need to "upgrade" to E3 for all users that need access to the ERP software via RDS server. Currently 32 users.

    • RE: 4g or 5g LTE cellular modem options?

I have had a cradlepoint router at a remote location running on AT&T for over a year. Only had some issues initially setting up the ipsec tunnel, which turned out to be a firmware issue. Worked with support extensively and found them to be pretty good. Since then, the connection has been solid, newer firmware was released that didn't have the ipsec issue. I would like to add one to our corporate office to have out of band access.

    • RE: Veeam with NetApp?

I have used Veeam with Synology for several years now. Currently, I have a DS3617xs (12-bay) with OBR10. The bottleneck on that is the single Gb NIC I am using. It has 4 that you can team but also install 10Gb. I have one installed in the NAS but haven't run the fiber from the server room to my office (where it is located).

OK. Sorry for not being clear enough. How does the error manifest itself? What problems were occurring that prompted an investigation into this?

What happens is your printers will have a black clock next to them. You'll lose the ability to right-click them or access the print server settings. You can't install new printers or remove printers already installed. The status of the printer will be "device setup in process" infinitely. This is due to it trying to pull the icons for the printers from an MS service that is not functional.

Oh, wow. That would suck. I wonder if this is already happening here and I haven't heard about it yet.

Yeah it legit ruined my weekend trying to figure it out. We got hit with ransomware and our group policy was affected so I thought it was related. Just really really bad luck.

Yeah, bad timing for sure. So this affects Windows 10 with shared printers?

Yes, the printer will act like it's installing - and just stall there.

Even if it is already installed?

How Much Would You Spend on Streaming Services Per Month?

A PCMag survey of 1,001 US streaming subscribers found that customers would pay an average of $33 per month for all their streaming services combined. From Apple TV+ and Disney+ to HBO Max, there will soon be more apps competing for that budget than ever
The next wave of video streaming services will crest in November with the launches of Disney+ and Apple TV+, and consumers will the faced with the first of many decisions over which apps are worth devoting another another couple bucks each month to streaming content. PCMag recently surveyed 1,001 US consumers who currently use streaming services, the majority of whom said they don't plan on subscribing to any new services, whether Disney and Apple's offerings, HBO Max, or NBCUniversal's forthcoming app. We also polled respondents on how much they'd be willing to pay for streaming content per month, both for an individual service and as a monthly total.

      Let's see:
      Netflix - $15
      Hulu - $13
      Disney+ - $4.25
      Total = $32.25...

Now that game of thrones is over, I'm not sure I'll ever bother with HBO again, though I could possibly see dumping Netflix for a month, picking up HBO, bing the new show, then reversing it.
Not willing to pay for CBS online - screw that noise!

Just $28 for me, no Disney+. And we use the cheap Hulu option. So I think more like $23.

      +10$/month for me for Prime.

I constantly forget about prime, but I have prime for shipping, not because of the shows - I so RARELY watch anything on Amazon.

Same here, we have it already and don't get it for the video, so we don't include it as we don't care.

Prime has good content. I like a lot of their originals. The only thing I don't like is that they lump the shit you have to pay for (rent/buy) in with the included with prime.

My first order of business - When on WiFi at his home/lodge, the app for his Milestone cameras says "Cannot Connect To Server"...I verified this and sure enough, when on the WiFi here, it won't connect. If I jump to 4G, it connects...if I use my home WIFi or at work it connects. Any suggestions on what to check to see why it is only being blocked on the WiFi here? Something in the UniFi GUI that I could fix? Or the new router I purchased?

Where is the 'server'? is is something on that network at his house? or something in the cloud?

Does accessing the internet work for things like gmail?

Milestone server is a PC located in one of his 3 switch rooms on a 192.168.1.10 address. It has always broadcasted to a the Milestone XProtect Mobile app. And it still does. Just won't connect to the DNS name when on the local WiFi...if you drop to 4G, it works...if back on WiFi and I set a connection to that 192 address, it works...just not with the primary DNS name when on his WiFi.

aww - so u-turn routing isn't working... or whatever it's called...

Do you replace or upgrade disk arrays based on their age?
Or do you let them spin until they die?

This is the debate I have going in my head as you can see from my recent post about my dying Dell drives. Server is still under warranty but I keep double checking my backups to verify they are good.

Verifying your backups is a good thing anyway.

SPF is considered a requirement these days. And DKIM is heavily recommended.

People are starting to come around. I have been using DKIM for a few years for all services sending email outside our org. With O365, SPF and DKIM are part of the setup.

If you've disabled cortana or Bing search in 1903, then KB4512941 might cause your local filesystem searches to have issues and high CPU usage.

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

      Make BingSearchEnabled = 1

      This enables Bing Search.

Um not to sound like a dick, but who the hell uses Bing Search? And more importantly if a superbly low used feature is breaking your computer, it's time to remove said feature.

      Stupid MS.

      But good fix.

By default, Cortana does. It is built-in default behavior. If you disable it, you will probably experience this problem.

This sounds like the AD Servers were restored from a backup and got out of sync... Could that be the case?

Yeah, it does. I am pretty sure that if you have an issue that you need to restore AD, you would bring down all DCs and restore a single DC, then add new DCs. But, I am thinking this would be better to do a completely new AD environment. Too many ghosts.
