If you happen to have a Synology onsite, they also offer Active Backup For Office 365. I'm using this at a small client's site with ~40 mailboxes. Works pretty well.

Keep in mind Active Backup is only available on certain models of Synology. I believe mostly on the plus models. It is an awesome software though.

This is the list of eligible models from their site. That's pretty comprehensive.

Another feature that I love to use on Synology is their Active Backup For Business, specifically for their scheduled rsync function that let's me pull all of my config files off the various Linux servers like Unifi (auto backup files), FreePBX backups, sound files...etc or even all the certs off my Nginx server. I find this method easier than setting up a network folder backup from each of the linux servers.

Incidentally, Willie Howe did a video about this setup a few days ago.

Is that included or you need to purchase it additionally?

It's included. No additional licensing required. It happens to be running right now for another client who we just setup a NAS for onsite backups so here's a screenshot (removed the list of users for privacy). This is the initial backup that's running. 14 users done, 6 more to go. The daily backups once the initial is done are much faster.

Hmmm, I've purged everything and still getting cert errors in FF, Edge and Chrome but iPhone seems to be ok. Must go investigate.

Doesn't explain the cert problems. That's a bit of an ooops if that's the case.

Anyone else having issues accessing the UBNT website? Getting cert errors in both Edge and Chrome and the site redirects to www.ui.com.

I keep hearing great things about using Pi-Hole (both here and from a colleague). But here's what I want to know - why use Pi-Hole instead of a full-blown web filter at the house? For those who are using it, what made you go Pi-Hole instead of the free home edition of Sophos, for example?

I run Sophos XG at home and after installing Pi-Hole I found Pi-Hole to be way more effective at blocking ads than Sophos XG ever was.

@NashBrydges I'll keep that in mind. What I'll eventually be doing is to connect several locations for my family VPN. I'd like to feel at least somewhat secure.

Yeah, hard to beat Ubiquiti for what you're looking for, unless you specifically want the added UTM features.

      dumping Sophos UTM free

I don't have any input for the question, but I'm curious why you want to drop Sophos for one of those two?

Cost in the form of technical debt. Dropping Sophos has lots of benefits (it's a decent product, but it is costly.)

What cost are you referring to? The 50 IP limit suggest he's using the Sophos Home UTM which is free to use.

@scotth Not looking to influence your decision but the 50 IP limit is gone with Sophos XG. There are only hardware limitations such as max # cores and no more than 6GB RAM for Sophos XG.

    • Windows Server 2016 or 2019

Setting up a new server and new VM for a client and need to buy a new Windows Server license. I would usually go to the most recent but wondering if anyone here has had any experience that would suggest sticking with a previous version instead? The VM will host an application that only runs on Windows so any mention of Linux isn't an option.

The one thing I would like, that I don’t have now with TV, is the ability to remote into iOS and Android. I get just as many questions about those devices and it is usually when someone is out of the country or something. Doesn’t SC allow for this? Too bad MC doesn’t yet.

It's a very different thing to remote into those. Almost nothing supports that.

      Doesn’t SC do this?

@Donahue & @scottalanmiller : Yes, SC supports remoting into iOS and Android devices though you have to install the app from the appropriate app store. Once done, a normal support session link will automatically start the app on the device.

On vanilla android and iOS, it's a VIEW only session. On Samsung phones exclusively, it's full control.

Oh weird, we've installed it before but the devices don't show up.

ScreenConnect iOS client does NOT allow you to control iOS devices. It allows you to use your iOS device instead of a PC to remote into a remote computer but you cannot remote control an iPhone or iPad device from SC.

Is everything ran from a website? Like could I connect from a phone to a workstation?

that's the idea, yeah. It's a remote access server, just like ScreenConnect.

Am I correct in stating that it is like ScreenConnect remote access agents but doesn't do the same "remote support" connections? At least that's what I seemed to get from the website.

It's still a trick, that price isn't per diaper its for a box of 100.

Other way to look at it...

12 condoms = 2 weeks to 1 month worth of product (ymmv)
100 diapers = you're set for 3-5 days based on how much your baby goes through them

      😉
