Backing up Office 365

Looking at Office 365 backup solutions, and there are a number of them out there now. Do any of y'all have experience with them? I tried doing some searching, but I still haven't figured out how to search based on multiple tags.

For clarity the need is primarily for backup of Sharepoint sites and OneDrive (basically Sharepoint). Education price breaks would be nice too for this customer.

How many users? I think the Veeam solution is free up to 10.

If you happen to have a Synology onsite, they also offer Active Backup For Office 365. I'm using this at a small client's site with ~40 mailboxes. Works pretty well.

I was looking at that. It is strange that it is so much less expensive than the other things I've looked at. I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but disparity like that makes me cautious. Are you using it yourself?

Adoption is mixed. Definitely more than 10.

It's included. No additional licensing required. It happens to be running right now for another client who we just setup a NAS for onsite backups so here's a screenshot (removed the list of users for privacy). This is the initial backup that's running. 14 users done, 6 more to go. The daily backups once the initial is done are much faster.

wow, that could justify the cost of a Synology pretty easily right there if you use that feature.

Another feature that I love to use on Synology is their Active Backup For Business, specifically for their scheduled rsync function that let's me pull all of my config files off the various Linux servers like Unifi (auto backup files), FreePBX backups, sound files...etc or even all the certs off my Nginx server. I find this method easier than setting up a network folder backup from each of the linux servers.
Incidentally, Willie Howe did a video about this setup a few days ago.

Keep in mind Active Backup is only available on certain models of Synology. I believe mostly on the plus models. It is an awesome software though.

Veeam's O365 backup only backs up your O365 tenant information (including SharePoint Online), to the same location as the Veeam server itself. I've tried the program, but you would need to mount the storage drive directly to the server. You would then need to manage the Veeam server itself with backups, which, to me, seems redundant, to backup your O365 data to a local server, then backup the server offsite. Unless you are some kind of service provider, then you have the capability to backup O365 to another hosted storage provider.
We are using OffsiteDataSync. First inital call was impressive, they have redundancy in the datacenters with multiple datacenters nationwide, great pricing based upon users, with unlimited amount of retention. However, our experience haven't been bad, but haven't been great either.
- Our sales guy was compromised by clicking on a link and sending us infected emails
- We don't receive successful emails on backup jobs
- We receive warnings with no more information than just a warning
- When opening a ticket, they tell you that it is escalated to their development team, but never receive updates on the ticket until they tell you that they are waiting for you to change your password for them to resolve the problem
- Then just drops your ticket without any explanation as to what broke, nor how they fixed it.
Take them with a grain of salt.

I am backing up my O365 to a share on a Synology NAS using Veeam.
Edit: It is the same NAS I use for Veeam BR, just a different share (as you can't use the same share as VBR)

Does this work well for larger numbers of mailboxes? Say. 40 rather than 10?
