To clear things up a little more. I do not own NTG. NTG is my day job. I love my day job and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. However I really did just see a huge need. Not just for IT Pro's either. The plan is to have many sites. ML is our flagship but I hope to grow this into a major Social Community and Social Marketing Firm. Marketing is my first love (not IT). This gives me a way to get back to it in a small way for now.

I will say congratulations again then, the world works in weird ways. I'm always happy to see when somebody uses their main career to "niche" their way (back) into their real passion. πŸ™‚

    • Inside look at botnets

Found an interesting article from UCSB with details from when they were trying to take down the Cutwail botnet; one of the largest (known) in the world.

A little bit long, but I thought it was worth the read if you're interested in spam/botnet communities and tactics.

    • RE: Dealing with the Universal Job Discriminant: Age

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but even though I'm 24... I really don't want to work with overly-ambitious FOB kids, or older crotchety folks either. I think age may be a discriminant for some companies, but I'd rather not work at those places regardless in all honesty.

I enjoy working around down to earth, communicative, bright individuals regardless of age... that keep work/home separate but can also grab a brew after the work's done. Luckily I hate managing so that'll never be my problem. πŸ˜›

Unfortunately they usually are; I haven't gotten a call on my work line yet though. Have you had a staffing agency call you yet to tell you about the awesome anonymous company they're hiring for? Those are my favorite by far.

      Lucky! I can't wait to be 25!

From what I can tell it's not much different, but expect to attend a lot more weddings. That's the only thing besides car insurance I can see on the horizon.

Hahahaha so looking around to guage things out of curiosity there's "MySocialBook" that turns your Facebook history into a book.

I still have my Galaxy S3 and honestly haven't really needed to upgrade. It's like owning a 10yr old car; tons of cheap parts and well documented online how-to's. I'd rather spend $100 on something I really want/need, a few craft beer 6-packs, and put the rest in savings.

      Really? That's kinda cool.

Maybe like a yearbook; I just had terrors of the first few pages being awkward high-school relationships and strange 3am selfies at Whataburger.

    • Doh! HomeDepot using AV from 2007...

Home Depot is facing claims it ignored security warnings from staff, who say prior to its loss of 56 million credit cards, it failed to update anti virus since 2007, did not consistently monitor its network for signs of attack, and failed to properly audit its eventually-hacked payment terminals.

      http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/09/22/home_depot_ignored_staff_warnings_of_security_fail_laundry_list/

EDIT: It gets better: "In 2012 Home Depot hired and promoted Ricky Joe Mitchell within its security ranks before he was in April sentenced to four years prison for performing a factory reset on his former employers' servers."

I tend to agree Hubtech, I don't like to have everything running on my laptop/desktop unless I have no other options (which perhaps you don't).

I would normally do the same thing, but $$$ is the issue right now, and I have to make due with whatever I can get a hold of.

      /plug
@Bill-Kindle ServerMonkey has (new) i-series laptops well under $1k and barebones (refurb) servers start under $100 on our boneyard page, depending on what type of virtualization you're looking to do. If you wanted to work something out we're always looking for good word-of-mouth!

Is ServerMonkey going to send someone in to replace you here? It will be hard for them to maintain a presence on par with what you have been providing.

Well, in all honestly I was here mostly on my own accord after we stopped posting in the community "over there". Charlotte is always on the ball in community engagement, so I would suggest sending her an email for feedback on anything website/community. Andy is my favorite sales rep (don't tell anyone!), and I've trusted him to white-glove most of the prospective clients I receive for us.
