      @DustinB3403

I use my user in the libvirt group so I do not have to bother with the root user.

      gpasswd -a jbusch libvirt

      Then this works.

Never tried it that way. I've always used:
      usermod -a -G libvirt <username>

    • Home Hardware Recommendations

I am looking for some suggestions on some new hardware. I am currently running an Asus wireless AC router with Merlin firmware, but lately it has been giving me some issues. I was thinking about getting a Ubiquiti AP because I run them at work and they have been great. I am not sure what to do for a router/firewall and switch. I would like for the router/firewall to have openvpn support but its not necessary as I can get around it by running it on the clients. I would like for the switch to be manageable so I can setup vlans etc. Thoughts?

My buddy has the Amplifi with two mesh endpoints and he loves it. Pretty basic functionality through the phone app though.

It's in the SS section, but yes.

      Correct location for this?

      Yes, correct location.
That's what I thought but they confused me.

Hey Matt, very odd. Sorry you're having some rough seas at the moment. I'll be looking into this and I'll get back to you here soon hopefully. If I have any questions or trouble repro-ing the issue I may send you a pm.

While your at it can you look into the Organizations and Contacts? Those editors do not work either. They are blank.

I just finished upgrading my Fedora 26 laptop to 27 a bit ago.

      So far everything working 100%.

I've been using it for my laptop and I like it a lot. Just on Cinnamon here, but everything has been very good since updating.

The only issue I have ran into so far is my mouse disappears in Virt-Manager when setting up a VM.

      Ctrl + Alt fixes that.

I will have to give that a try.

I just have regular Dreamhost web hosting and install WordPress manually. Then install the two good security addins that help you keep it secure, and make sure auto-updating is turned on.

I haven't tried managed WordPress hosting. I'm not sure what that will get me.

I've used Dreamhost's manged wordpress hosting. It's great. I do not have to do a thing. They handle all the updates and keep me informed when doing so.

@scottalanmiller said in "Home" Lab - Is it Cost-Effective to Run at Home?:

If you can limit your home to just a Raspberry Pi or even an Intel NUC you might be better off keeping it at home. But once you get to anything hard core or extensive, the power savings along generally make it all worth it.

I have 4 pi's. One is setup with the official display running a web server, streaming my dog cams. Another running a portable kodi player with a 1TB hdd. Other two are doing nothing.

That is their claim to fame. Fast, loaded with features, dies quickly, and basically no support.

I'm having a hard time following this. So we have one(two) KVM host, fedora instance running virt manger, another fedora running vnc server?

Install Cockpit: dnf install cockpit cockpit-machines
Then do a dnf group install "Virtualization".

Set each VM to use SPICE and VNC. You can get VM console access via Cockpit and the VNC display.

cockpit gets installed on the KVM host?

      Yes.

Can I create VMs within cockpit? I do not see an option for that.

No, but you can connect to your KVM host via virt-manager from another Linux PC.

Or do a search for my Kimchi guide:

      https://mangolassi.it/topic/14675/fedora-26-kvm-html5-remote-access-with-web-console-via-kimchi

      Guide is here:
      https://www.timothygruber.com/linux/fedora-26-kvm-html5-remote-access-with-web-console-via-kimchi-part-1/

I have tried connecting virt manger to my KVM host but I get all kinds of errors. Not sure if I am doing it right. Do you have a guide for connecting to a remote KVM host with virt manger for a non-root user? I get lots of accessed denied. I did end up finding your guide after searching cockpit on the forum.
