I think a lot of you will be interested in two news items we pushed the last days:

• Collabora brings LibreOffice Online to ownCloud about LibreOffice Online integration in ownCloud
• Western Digital And ownCloud Team Up To Bring ownCloud to Home Users inviting people to join a project building ownCloud software for a Raspberry Pi 2 based, ownCloud-branded Western Digital developed self hosting device - you can get a prototyp if you participate!

We will be at FOSDEM and SCALE and I look forward to seeing many of you there! In other conference news, we've picked the dates for the ownCloud Contributor Conference 2016: September 9-15. Save the dates, we'll open registration in March.

I really like the Digital Ocean tutorial series they did a while ago, like installing MediaWiki. Creating something which you can use at home also helps make projects like these a bit more personal - and thus interesting. Build your own media server (samba, ftp or a bit more advanced like ownCloud). Just make sure it stays a challenge: buy some Raspberry Pi's or Zero's and cluster a web app with MySQL, Redis and stuff like that...

The issue, esp with open source projects like ours, is that people are often afraid to test the beta's. So when the .0 comes out, we've run our automated tests, coders have tested and some handful of users did tests so the common cases work just fine - but all these corner cases still have issues hiding because users who have non-standard setups didn't help test.

That is why I always say when people ask me "when should I upgrade?": AFTER you have helped test, because that is the only way to make sure YOUR specific situation is tested and issues are fixed.

And thus, if you want the cool new stuff in a .0 as soon as possible, test it in your situation while it is in Beta or RC phase so problems can be fixed and you will notice that .0 is perfectly stable

@dafyre I guess the auto updater takes a while, we usually let it simmer a bit before making it available everywhere

Packages and downloads should be up to date by now, though.

Time to get upgraded!

I just published another batch of over a dozen ownCloud videos. Some include ownCloud specific topics, others are more generic like a new WebDAV sharing standard in development, JSXC: the JavaScript XMPP Client, and my own presentation on why you're not as smart as you think. There's an update of the Documents app, I haven't checked if it works with 8.2 but you'd think that that is the main reason for the update

Dear #ownCloud users: we have moved our Linux repositories from the Open Build Service to our own download servers. If you were on the stable release channel, you'll have to change the repositories!

There's one bug known which breaks upload for public link shares: https://github.com/owncloud/core/issues/19922
It's already fixed (you could grab the fix if you care a lot) and will thus be OK in 8.2.1 but I wanted to keep you updated on this. It's probably the worst thing we found until now...

For those of you interested in videos from the ownCloud Contributor Conference - we just published a whole bunch on our YouTube account.

Just to give an idea: we had a theater director open the conference followed by a keynote from our project founder with some cool announcements.

Further came talks about encryption and security, the android client, LDAP, building a community and more.

We'll publish further videos the coming weeks but I'm on holiday in Italy for two weeks so I'll start publishing the rest of them probably only after that...
