I've had to deal with the same sort of buildings before. The key will be to have a good site survey done ahead of time. If you end up needing an AP in every room, it's probably not worth it.

Just an educated guess here, but 2.4GHz will probably get halfway acceptable coverage without acceptable speed for the end users while 5GHz will likely not cover enough area to make it worth moving to entirely.

Build a super dedicated, fully cooled, fully wired, LARGE space with room to move about data closet on a raised floor.

I'm in the camp of a consistent temperature, regardless if it's 72 or 80 degrees, doesn't matter to me.

Everywhere I've worked aside from datacenters, has had power outages and then concerns about condensation forming on/in equipment.

More resilient power to the AC unit with a properly setup UPS to shutdown in the event of a outage seems way more important than the rest.

I don't disagree with having space to work.

      @BraswellJay

I finally figured out what was causing my issue.

In FreePBX under Settings->Asterisk SIP Settings there is a parameter to set the External Address used. I had this still set to the public IP of the original interface. Once I changed that parameter to the public IP of the new interface then all started to work over the new interface as expected.

Glad you sorted it out. Good work!

      @BraswellJay

Turned out to be a SIP port issue. I remember when I set this particular site up I ended up using port 5160 instead of 5060 but when I configured the new IP group in the skyetel portal I didn't change to the correct port. Once I made that change the portal now shows the new interface as healthy.

I don't know any platform like that that has built in editors to modify the files that are in the storage

OneDrive does let you edit files directly, in the storage.

How were you able to bring up the editor? Did you just click on file name? When I do that on a url link file it just takes me to the file that the link is pointing to. I can then edit that target file. In my case it brings up an image editor since the target is a .png file. I can't seem to find a way to edit the text of the url link file itself without downloading it first.

I just clicked on the file.

However, if you really think about it, you want exactly the behavior you are seeing. Imagine if clicking on the .url file it brought up the editor for users instead of taking them to the pointer file?

That said, can you right-click on it in the browser and open it in text editor? If not, then I guess you'll just have to do it on your computer.

Examples in known open source worlds...

If you run ProxMox with DRBD on the Debian (host) layer, it's RLS assuming ProxMox has local disks.

If you then make that block storage available over the network, it becomes a SAN (a traditional / physical SAN.) A SAN with replication for resiliency.

If you run ProxMox and make a VM of Ubuntu and in that VM install DRBD it may or may not be RLS depending on where the host is getting its storage from for that VM. To the VM it will appear as if it is RLS, but we really don't know unless we check the stack. It's just the replication piece here.

If you then make that DRBD block layer in the VM available over the network, it becomes a vSAN.

@BraswellJay you don't need one with word. In Word, just export as pdf.

I can't do that in bulk that way though, can I?

My user may have 50 or so word files and she wants to convert them all to separate PDFs without having to open each one individually in word.

I thought there may be a tool that would just let her bulk select all and convert them all at once.

You can do it with PowerShell. Make a simple script for the user to run.

      Here's one resource that works:

@Dashrender said in Fiber Connection Termination Question:

@BraswellJay said in Fiber Connection Termination Question:

Not that I really think I need it, but out of curiosity, if I were to get appropriate fiber connector for each end and insert into the same port on both sides is that all that would be needed to make another pair active?

Maybe yes, maybe no - it depends if there is fiber behind ports 2 and 3. If there is fiber between your building connecting ports 2, and port 3, then yes, just install a fiber patch cable on each side and you have another connection.

Besides what @Dashrender said you can also turn your current fiber pair (transmit and receive) into two separate fibers with send and transmit on every single fiber. You just have to change your fiber transceivers in your switch to the bidi type (bidirectional).

      Works like this:
      bidi-transeiver-working-principle-1622516147-5CFncvxO1a.jpg

Bidi tranceivers looks like this (notice the single fiber connector):
      ff7c351f-aff7-4723-97a4-3241987cef97-image.png

If you want even more fiber communications running inside your single fiber pair you can use optical multiplexers and demultiplexers.

      Looks like this:
      _1596781054_JKMO4zjonx.jpg

This is what you use when you need to expand your communication without actually running new fiber pairs.

Every communication channel uses a different wavelength of light so they don't collide and every channel will run at maximum speed.

Much of the point of the physical card is to make a mental pathway in the human, not the phone, which builds a memory and enforces the connection. That's why we use paper, the way it interacts with the person.

Paper cards can always have all the info you want AND a QR code to allow for the digital transfer in a more universal way. That digital card isn't going to work with a laptop very likely. I have no idea how they work, as I've never had someone attempt to use one. If my phone is dead or not on me, it's useless. If my phone doesn't have your app, it's useless (I presume.) If I don't have the right kind of phone, I'm annoyed that you made me keep trying something you've not tested. Paper is universal and works.

Also, not me, but I know a lot of people who use paper cards as little note cards to write additional info on. Can't do that with the digital.

It all depends. You can inspect the layers of the images. You can also scan with trivy, snyk, etc.

You can also do what @IRJ mentioned. There’sa few ways to handle this.

The noise cancellation works really good. I don't know about factory floor good, but real good.

Do you find the (roughly) 500' range to be accurate? I only need 100' but with a few walls in between.

      Walls hit Bluetooth pretty hard.

The model I linked is DECT.

Oh okay, those work even better.

oh they have to adhere, it's just that the license clearly states that there are no limits on use. So they were adhering perfect.

ELK was upset that they didn't like how the code was being used when run in production and wanted control of the use of their code, not the reading or modification of the code.
