@bigbear said in Vultr Sold Out Instances:

Today at 12:05 EST one of my new NJ Server 2016 instances was booted. The server sees it as if the power was unplugged.

I opened a ticket and I am trying to find some insight. Haven't had a server reboot in Chicago data center before, but haven't run Windows Server yet.

I have this particular instance firewalled with an allowed connection from my WAN IP. So I don't know if it could still be an outside attach like I was getting before. Thought about turning on DDoS attack protection but hate to be wasteful if that's not the issue.

I have had a server kicked in Chicago before, but never without an email explaining something happened (not caused by my instance).

      @syko24 free... and useless:

      Limitations of the free license:

The free license is limited to five locks per day which means the free edition defends your system against five unique attacks per day. [...] The free license does not contain reporting (like the PRO edition does).

Also, no official support for Windows Server 2016.

As I side note, non-Microsoft RDP clients suck so far. winterminal and thinlinx both are barely usable. Have tried to Azure and Vultr as well as a remote Win10 box. Horrible.

I have a couple HP thin clients arriving tomorrow to test out.

I am also going to give Citrix a try.

Yeah I looked at this a few months ago, and I agree. There is no threat at the moment. I don't really have any indication that it will get better. We'll see. Maybe MS will buy someone and piece together a "solution" like always.

I find it unlikely because the state of the system hasn't changed in a long time. It's settled into a long status quo of sucking.

And a Linux AD server will be something like $2.50 - $5/mo. Whereas a Windows AD server will be like $26/mo.

@dbeato I have thought a lot about nextcloud. They didnt seem to have any support plans for the ~10 to 15 user size companies so I was hesitant to go with it.

Or, you could ask certain people in the community that promote it all the time to see what they offer.

Yeah it definitely seems like an issue. Since the only interface on the FreePBX is marked EXTERNAL (since its hosted) I wander if that is not a situation FreePBX engineers accounted for.

I seem to remember early on @JaredBusch mentioning a customer of his was blocked when their internet cut in and out and he had to remove them. I saw that a couple months ago in his post.

I really wonder what a broadcast domain looks like Pertino/Zero Tier/Himachi?

Depends on what kind of broadcasts. If you mean Ethernet broadcasts, which is what most people mean (the ones that are limited by VLANs) then these VPNs don't affect them at all.

So an ethernet broadcast storm could bring it down?

Ethernet broadcast storm can take down anything that is using Ethernet. What you are doing on top of Ethernet is irrelevant. But what do YOU mean by "bring it down?"

The Synology email server does look like it is moderately nice. If you have a good service, like The Email Laundry, handling your external connections, running your email server internally isn't so bad. I have no experience with the Synology for email handling, but it looks like it might work just fine.

Honestly I can't believe how far Zoho has come since 2009 when I last used it. Now if they would only change the daycare looking logo of theirs. Their product interfaces are modern and attractive but their website product icons and logo are very off-putting.

That's very true. They make it very hard to take them seriously. It doesn't give the impression that it is meant for business use.

@JaredBusch said in Exporting mailboxes and archives from Office 365 without using Outlook.:

I have this saved as powershell script named CreatePST.ps1 in C:\Scripts on the Exchange server.

      # To execute script, you must open an exchange powershell window, elevated permissions not required. # First you must be in the scripts directory. # cd \scripts # Then execute the powershell script with 3 parameters. # ./CreatePST.ps1 >First Name< >Last Name< >email alias< # ./CreatePST.ps1 Jared Busch jbusch # The export path is not a variable as we need to know that it is writable by the system. param ( [string]$FirstName = $(throw "-FirstName is required."), [string]$LastName = $(throw "-LastName is required."), [string]$alias = $(throw "-alias is required.") ) New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox "$alias" -FilePath "\\server\share\PSTExports\$FirstName.$LastName.pst" Write-Host "" Write-Host "To check status, run: Get-MailboxExportRequest | Get-MailboxExportRequestStatistics"

to my knowledge, there is no comparable feature for Office 365.

Most people recommend you use Outlook.

This is a killer script though. I was on the verge of setting up a local exchange server, migrating mailboxes in hybrid mode to the local install and running this script from there.

@bigbear said in Transfer Failed on 38G Phones with FreePBX:

Good thought. It did still fail from both soft phones.

Deleteing extension and recreated as CHAN_SIP, still fails.

I get nothing related to the registration attempt in that phone.

Now working from a different phone. I must not have CHAN_SIP allowed through responsive firewall. But this site is "Local" using the updated firewall terminology and the responsive firewall is enabled for CHAN_SIP.

Change to trusted. And then make sure the IP is not already in the blacklist

Though its not the correct config I had it in trusted from the other week when I messing around.

I know I am missing some setting on my installation because the asterisk log isnt even showing the attempt to connect.

In the firewall I have responsive firewall enabled but also SIP (chan_sip_ set to local). Its a default installation so its shows port 5160 UDP for chan_sip, configured the phone the same port 5160.

SO yeah either ht efirewall or some other network if Asterisk is not seeing it.

From an end user POV, you still probably need MDM, Perhaps there are free ones you would like?

O365 could be replaced with your own self hosted NextCloud setup. You still need email, and you should be buying it from someone. If you don't need things like ActiveSync/shared calendars, then you can get RS mail for $1/u/m, but really, most want those things, so you're at least at $4/u/m at which point personally I'd still go O365 hosted exchange only (but I wouldn't because I want my storage integrated into my email client. Which I suppose could be done with NextCloud (NextCloud has a built in web front end for any backend email service (for desktop use) - that combined with a mobile sync app I suppose could make that work similar to O365 with Sharepoint).
