    • Need some advice on GIT

I am planning to replace svn with GIT for our dev team. Overwhelmed with the different types on git implementation and leaning more towards to gitlab, as this seems to be a better self hosted alternative to github.

I wanted to deploy on my centos server and test it, but when i checked today, with some tutorials, couldn't get it up and running. Can you recommend any good tutorials/pointers to setup gitlab, if anyone already done this?

    • Outlook.com stopping custom domain sign-ups

After google apps stopped free domain sign ups now its Microsoft's turn!

Just got an email from MS that they no longer support new domain setup.

      *Dear Outlook.com Customer,

We want to inform you of some important changes to the Windows Live Admin Center: As of 10 April 2014, Outlook.com no longer supports new custom domain sign-ups. We appreciate that you have used this service and we regret to inform you of this change. This email will explain the upcoming changes and your options as a valued customer.

As a current customer, we will continue to support the ability to log in to Outlook.com with your existing custom domain email address, but as of 31 July 2014, you will no longer be able to add or remove accounts in your domain.*

And all should migrate if they want to keep the domain and add more users, to O365!

    • Automating Capex workflow

We have a very basic manual workflow process for our Capex approval now. I am looking for a automated solutions where we could select the devices from the hardware catalog, add it for different offices and then get the approvals and notifications to the concerned team.

Have anyone tried it on Sharepoint or any other systems?

    • RE: Partner competencies

Yes it is, and they keep changing the competency requirements and the whole competency! Few months back we were so close the get the Gold partnership and then knew that they changed their competency and as part of that we need to do BING ADs certification as well.

    • RE: Linphone Ghost Calls

Not sure if you have the same issue, but I had this problem on our PBX server when I was using Trixbox. It was annoying that the front desk phone rings like 50 times a day and after logging a ticket with Trixbox they said its a hacking attempt due to the ports opened for remote sip phones for my branch offices. One advice from them was to only whitelist the branch office IP and check, that didn't really helped much.

I setup fail2ban which even though was not supported by trixbox, after installing that and some trial and errors, the ghost calls stopped. Then we got migrated to our parent PBX server, so its not my headache anymore! 🙂

    • RE: Partner competencies

@technobabble You don't need to feel that way! To be honest I feel MS partner site is one of the difficult one to browse through to find what you need, and most times i end up calling them to clarify things. 🙂

You could get any of the below:

      https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/Pages/Membership/Small-business-competency.aspx

      https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/pages/membership/midmarket-solution-provider-competency.aspx

      This includes Office 365, 2012 Server, Windows7/8

Yes, it depends on what competency you want to get and also if Gold/Silver. Let me know if you need some details, as we recently achieved our Gold Digital Advertising and am in the partner network setting up Yammer & Sharepoint with the Gold competency benefits! 🙂 Got 1 year 100 seat internal use licenses. 🙂

@scottalanmiller Zimbra seems to be a nice option, even though we are moving out of zimbra emails, would be great to see that product on a different way! 🙂 Let me check this.

    • Intranet social network

I've been requested to find a solution (preferrebly on premise and free) intranet social network to share and collaborate between team members. I was checking on eX0 platform community edition, but wanted to check with you all to see if there are any good alternatives. I am also interested in checking Yammer. 🙂

    • RE: NTG Pre-Weekend Project: Loggly

@scottalanmiller Nice writeup on that actually.

Few of our servers are hosted in London and some in Vancouver. I was just wondering if loggly is safe enough to push all server logs. A centralised logging option is always in my mind, but am still thinking of having a self hosted log management server to collect and analyse logs from all our servers.
