Looked at it a while ago, interesting technology but no clue where it would make sense to use.

@scottalanmiller I have avoided bad updates by waiting a week or two and googling the updates that show in my WSUS. If I worked with a team of people who only did help desk, I would be more willing to take the leap. That being said, I do have critical updates set to automatically download and install for all clients. Servers I do regularly and manually. Critical updates appear less often and are fewer in numbers compared with other updates that seem to cause the problems.

At the moment I can access the NFS Share using WinSCP, and copy from the NFS Share to my windows PC without issue, but I don't believe I can schedule this.

      With PuTTY you can.

      Care to elaborate?

PuTTY comes with a command line SCP client.

I never noticed / knew that!

Took me like a decade or so before someone pointed it out to me recently too 🙂

it's robocopy all over again 😛

It sounds like the requirements fall into the pick any two scenario. (cheap was not mentioned)

I've used a few that fit into this category
      Asus Zenbook, Samsung Series 9, MacBook 11 & 13

In terms of what lasted, the MacBook was the most resiliant. The others started to fall apart after the constant back and forth, travelling etc. Look for a used MacBook Air would be my recommendation.

It's not bad, I use one liners all the time, and that's a very simple one liner. Linux culture is to use a string of separate commands instead of one that does everything.

That's the big thing with XenApp, application performance. And integration with XenDesktop for VDI.

NPS will handle the 2FA you connect it is with Radius. Works well for us.

We use SecurID as our provider which can be either software (iphone/android app)or RSA keyfob.

When you are talking about Ubuntu, you're talking about admins using it.. not home users. As such the lack of new things making would never be acceptable to home users - they are constantly looking for new things.. and if they can't find it in the normal store.. they will go elsewhere if it's possible at all.

I've never met those home users. What things are they looking for? I rarely see home users install anything but malware. All they use are web browsers.

This really changes the state of "will companies be willing to pay." When it is $300, people are quick to jump on the "of course you have to pay it" bandwagon. But when it is millions, it is much harder to decide that it is worth paying the ransom.

If you only have Samba controllers, hell it might work.

that's the normal way to use it. Mixing it in would just be weird. Lots of companies run on just it, it works great from what I hear. I've never heard of a shop that had issues after moving to it. It's full AD with all the bells and whistles. You can even manage it from Windows and GPOs work great too.

I saw somewhere online someone set up an environment that way and used RSAT from a Windows 7 computer to do GPO and users/computers.

I've worked with multiple companies that had the opposite issue, all of their equipment control software ran on Solaris on Sparc only. So they had to maintain proprietary hardware and Solaris for everything.

Fully Automated Nagios (FAN) is probably the easiest to set up and has Centreon for the graphical configuration. It works well but it hasn't had an update in a while so it's out of date some. Still works well. If you check out my projects on my profile over on SW you will see some screenshots of my install. Nagvis is the add-on that gives the cool maps I made.
