      Desktop OS is important, because you need a desktop to access the cloud - but it's only important in as much as it is used to sell Azure.

      But you can access Azure just as well (or better in many cases) from Ubuntu, ChromeOS, Fedora, macOS, etc.

      Of course, but you can push users towards Azure by controlling what users see on the desktop - think pre-installing Skype or Edge or the Microsoft App Store. Google do the same for their OS. Amazon are probably the most explicit in practically giving away Amazon Fires just to push Amazon services.

      Two weeks left for those trying to go from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The Free Upgrade depends on the OS being current, remember.

      Do you think those people who have not upgraded by the 14th will be UNABLE to install and activate from their Windows 7 or 8.1 key?

      Notice how I didn't ask about any licensing issues. I already know that answer. 🙂

      Likely the ability to upgrade won't change, if there was time/date detection, we'd already have heard about it.

      @scottalanmiller said in Why the Windows 10 EULA Is Applicable to Older Windows Licenses:

      It then points out that the EULA is not valid only in the case where the source license is not genuine, so like a pirated copy of Windows 8. This entire portion of the EULA is exclusively for the purpose of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. It has no purpose otherwise.

      It does. It also applies when you are installing a clean install of a previously legally licensed Windows 10 system.

      @dave247

      maybe this was answered here, but I was wondering if someone can correct me on this

      If i put WIndows server VM with 2 cores on Hypervisor any brand which has 8 cores.

      Do i need to license windows server VM for 2 cores or 8 cores ?

      There are no cores at the VM level, those are vCPUs. Windows is licensed by cores, not by vCPUs. Cores are always physical, and the minimum is 16. No matter how you configure the VMs and vCPUs, you have to license 16 cores at a minimum.

      A single vCPU could use sixteen cores or more to power it, the licensing is by the available power, not the configuration.
