So these instructions, with Fedora 26 Minimal instead of 25, and NextCloud 12 instead of 11. Everything will likely work the same other than that.

What's crazy to me is they haven't built SELinux operations into their update scripts.

Yes. And upgrade completed. Such a simple thing to check and tell people.

Cost is an issue? Assuming you got hosted SharePoint only I think it's $4/u/m...

      Tiny capacity, though.

      1 TB per user?

That's ODfB. The Sharepoint storage proper is like 100MB.

      OMG, that's near useless!

It's only for documents. Goes a long way when used as intended.

Used as intended? That's a joke, right? Storing large PDFs should be a part of the intention. DWG files can be huge.

It's been a while, but I'm doing some testing of this now. Big deals for us include the addition of mobile apps which some others are lacking.

You can use the upgrade tool which is even easier if you are on a current version of owncloud. Even though the article doesn't say anything about updating from owncloud, the first article I posted does say you can use this method on current owncloud servers. You just switch the update channel and search for updates.

@wirestyle22 said in OwnCloud or NextCloud etc?:

@ashish1521 I thought owncloud became nextcloud?

The people that made ownCloud left to make NextCloud. Both products continued, but NextCloud grew and ownCloud nearly went out of business and for all intents and purposes doesn't exist anymore. But technically, it is still out there.

Circling back to this, it is like I was blind or something. This happened because owncloud made it into the EPEL. It says it right there in my screenshot.

I just installed a new CentSO system and wanted to see what it tried now.

      [root@bna-nc ~]# yum install owncloud Loaded plugins: fastestmirror epel/x86_64/metalink | 12 kB 00:00:00 epel | 4.3 kB 00:00:00 (1/3): epel/x86_64/group_gz | 170 kB 00:00:00 (2/3): epel/x86_64/updateinfo | 751 kB 00:00:00 (3/3): epel/x86_64/primary_db | 4.6 MB 00:00:00 Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * base: centos.mirrors.tds.net * epel: mirror.oss.ou.edu * extras: ftpmirror.your.org * updates: bay.uchicago.edu Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check ---> Package owncloud.noarch 0:9.1.4-1.el7 will be installed

@LAH3385 Once the NTG lab is back up and running (should be soon) and I have some free time (I'm speaking at SpiceCorps Auburn today) I'm going to be playing with NextCloud pretty high on my priority list and will hopefully be able to make an automated install that you can just run, no knowledge needed.

If you're running CentOS you're most likely going to need to change SELinux contexts to match also.

@Jason said in CIO.com on What We Can Learn from ownCloud's Collapse:

Has own cloud officially made any statement? I thought that were still running for now

ownCloud, Inc. the company that we have dealt with and know was gone immediately (twelve hours.) Literally the company just closed down and everyone was fired. So we have no contacts there now. All of the people that we knew are gone.

ownCloud Germany is still limping along but has no communications channels as ownCloud Inc. handled all of that out of Boston. So no one has heard from them and there are questions about their ability to provide American services.

@aaronstuder said in Introducing the ownCloud Foundation:

What is the conflict? That the commercial version is doing very well or very poorly?

The developers have never participated with the community. Their own forums is a waste of space. You would think that it would be a place to go to interact, but it is not. If you expect anything there, you will be told to go post it on github. It is strictly community only.

The founder recently left over differences with the company.

The public perception is (was?) that the community edition was severely looked down on by the developers.
