They should be required to do audits and pen testing yearly due to requirements of government systems. It sounds like solar winds worked with pen testing firms that that just gave passing grades. Sometimes organizations purposely hire bad security talent so they don't get exposed as doing a bad job.

You mean like how the government hires Solarwinds?

I have a client that uses at least one solar wind product and I shudder....

      Me too.

Be happy he was able to live as long as he did, when he was diagnosed, he was given only a year to live. He obviously lived for 5 decades after that diagnosis.

It was linked in a previous article. Basically the judge threw Murray under the bus and ran him over a few dozen times with legalese speak. From one of my lawyer friends the judge didn't leave a lot of room for a viable appeal either.

That would be good. That ancient firmware on there is pretty silly.

Almost all Ubiquiti equipment come with outdate firmware by 2 or 3 months or more at times.

You have no clue what you are talking about. 2-3 months? Hhhahahaahahahahh

At least on APs from Amazon their firmware is from January the last AP I bought three days ago. Not sure why you doubt that...

Because this is a discussion about EdgeMax hardware not Unifi.

ok, point taken. ER-L came with 1.7.0 last December.

My most recent one, from four weeks ago, was still 1.2.

I've never had an ERL shipped to me with anything other than 1.2

Edit: that is the original firmware btw...

      Got a 1.0 not long ago (ER-48-LITE or 500W, can't remember) 😉

Not sure what my switches came with Probably were 1.0. The GUI totally changed after updating them.

@irj I Laughed pretty hard. There are benefits to combining hardware and software together in a purchase, and then there are downsides. Weird trade in/up games is one of them.

The media only labels someone a terrorist if they are of foreign nationality and of a specific religion. That's where my issue lies.

      Your absolutely right about that

Yes, that would work well. Also checking in the same version should not trigger a new version to be created. So the encryption malware would need to alter the file in addition to encrypting it each time or else it would fail even with the incrementing numbers.

And think about how many things cannot be reasonably secured.... Heartbleed is a great example. You discover you have Heartbleed, so either you wait for a patch and hope for the best or it is available and you patch right away. A security department telling you that things are vulnerable does no good as you would have already known. You just need people to help with the actual patching!

He has been an icon of the industry. Of course he still owns the company, I am sure, so he's probably looking to relax a bit.
