      @BraswellJay

      Turned out to be a SIP port issue. I remember when I set this particular site up I ended up using port 5160 instead of 5060 but when I configured the new IP group in the skyetel portal I didn't change to the correct port. Once I made that change the portal now shows the new interface as healthy.

      @pete-s

      Doesn't FreePBX use their own distro though? Or is that something different?

      I don't know. I was always under the impression it was CentOS, which until recently is the same as RedHat Enterprise Linux.

      I'm sure @JaredBusch knows more.

      FreePBX is Sangoma 7, a fork of CentOS 7.
      They had a private alpha of FreePBX 15 or 16 built on CentOS 8 that was never public. That was killed when RedHat killed CentOS 8.

      FreePBX 16 is still Sangoma 7, but with PHP 7.4 ported in and a few other updates.

      There has been no announcement yet, but a few threads on, choosing a new fork to go forward with.

      Option 2:
      Use the built in and use a connector that is IP auth'd

      A client of mine is getting out of a situation like that with Cox.

      Cox charged like $80/m originally per phone for 4 phones - they installed the cable, the switch, the UPS, then 5 years ago lowed the price to $50/m/each.

      Now they are moving to FreePBX, paying their own hosting fees, and bought the phones outright. Monthly bill fell by approx 75%

      @jaredbusch said in limiting asterisk/freepbx to some "User Agent":

      The problem with this is that I can customize my user agent to be anything I want.

      So as soon as anyone knows what you are doing, it is trivial to customize my device user-agent to spoof the one you want to see.

      Yeah, that was what I was wondering - I was pretty sure the user-agent string is in plain text, so anyone can sniff the network and now they're in.

      So a bit more than security through obscurity, thought not sure how much more.

      If you are using TLS, it is not easily visible.

      But, if you know what it is, then you can still set it. But it helps hide it if you don't know what's being sent.

      OK, I understand. Thanks.

      Also, I wasn't trying to be abrasive. I kind of worded that strongly. I just don't like Bash much. I find it annoying, so I'd rather use something else unless it's a really simple thing.

      No problem. Bash is primitive for sure. Pick the right tool for the job I guess.

      Phew! Busy couple of days for me. Sorry for the late reply.

      OK, so the setup is as @JaredBusch assumed. VPN on the Laptop only. Split tunneling was not enabled and now it is. Problem solved for now! DuckDNS is reporting the correct home IP. No need for VPN on the phone or PBX.

      Good call @Dashrender

      @scottalanmiller I'm still going to checkout the possibilities of OpenVPN though. Just in case I need it in the future.

      Thanks guys. Have a great weekend.

      @JaredBusch

      Everything works fine now.

      The issue was a DNS resolution for devices within the LAN. I added an A record on the router for split dns. That solved the problem.

      Thank you so much for your support

      Ask your users if their kids use Steam. Most of my home users have older "kids" I tell them to have their kids stop there Steam games. The users are like what's that?? But as soon as steam is stopped their perfomance comes right back to nominal.

      It would be them downloading more games, most likely.
