@pete-s Love this idea but have tried it. It got shot down by the "higher powers that be" because it was too costly for the ROI or something like that. So now the basic idea is to purchase the core equipment now (NVR, switches, and some cameras) now, and then every quarter, replace a few cameras until they are all replaced. Keeps the costs under the radar while still getting what we need.

@nerdydad Alright, but how about finding out what companies in the region would offer for your current needs?

Of course you can't have Ubiquiti IP cameras. Can't have "home" equipment when you're talking about a serious installation with 80-100 cameras in two locations.

          hahah. . . but Wyze camera's were considered. . .

<sarcasm>Oh, of course. Local storage to house video, can use the GPIO pins for led signals, the potential is boundless. </sarcasm>

Ubuiqiti and the NVR (either hardware if it supports your need) or the software versions are great options.

Avoid the consumer looking crap. This is business grade looking, and they have dome and bullet cameras.

Local security vendor I know is setting us up with Vitek camera system. He really likes them and speaks highly of them. He's been in the business for a while and used various brands, so his recommendation went a long way. I think they're reasonably priced as well.

16 Channel NVR with built-in 16 port POE switch roughly $1,000. No recurring costs.

4MP 1080p Dome Cameras were about $220 each.

Checked out Meraki as we already use them for the wifi. Not at $1000-$1500/camera.

                    https://meraki.cisco.com/products/security-cameras#models

question: is that what your boss is considering "more serious looking"? no criticism, want to know what kind you are looking for. . . SO we can give better suggestions.

Mainly dome cameras and bullet cameras. Similar to Axis or Avigilon.

I assume you have looked into both of those products and thus brought to the attention of the community?

I will keep looking for something i think will help when i have the time .

For good quality budget option you might want to have a look at Hikvision. Very large manufacturer that also makes a lot of OEM stuff for others and have a lot of different models for different applications.

Haven't tried them myself but I would check them out if I was buying.

We have installed remote site monitoring stuff, including cameras, all around around the world for our customers. We use Axis and HikVision mostly unless customer rejects them(usually dont).

my question: how does This not look serious?

If it were me looking up and seeing one of these cameras I would probably stop what I am doing..

Seriously, Ubiquiti makes some of the most serious looking cameras out there. No idea what to do if those don't cut it.

That looks like something abandoned and retired years ago, but left up because everyone was too lazy to take it down and they were hoping that leaving it there, even dead, would do something.

I was getting ready to steal a pen from work, and after seeing that camera, I put it back.
