Ah, yup, testing that just killed the laptop. That's definitely at least related to the issue.

Can't find a rotation lock on Cinnamon, so in the mean time, testing Gnome3 and LXQT on there. At least going to see if we can isolate the issue. Getting closer, though.

Gnome3 does have the rotation lock option.

Testing that now. First test, it didn't work. It rotated after locking then freaked out.

The lock does not work. Even after being locked, if you turn the laptop, it rotates to portrait but it cannot rotate back to landscape. Not idea.

Although no crashes yet on Gnome 3, just weird rotational locking. Locked or unlocked, it switches to portrait but not back. It's always free to switch once but not again.

I turned off the hardware for orientation, so far so good.

I've only tried it using Fedora 25 Gnome3 on HP ProBook 450 G3.

Possible that Cinnamon is more fragile, since it is built on top of Gnome 3, there is more to go wrong. And it does not get as much testing. Gnome 3 works fine, so this might just be the solution if this tests out okay.

                      I modified /etc/sysctl.conf with this...

                      fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 262144

And so far, things are working better.

Well it improved things, but it still crashed.

The button that locks rotation seems to reset itself on reboot, which seems to be connected to the problem. Seeing if setting that changes things.

Are you testing Gnome3 or Cinnamon on Korora? Because I haven't experience that issue with Fedora Gnome3.

Both, and both have the issue. Back to Cinnamon once Gnome 3 didn't fix anything.

The issue is definitely around the Lenovo hardware, not seeing this issue on any other Korora device.

Does Linux work at all with Lenovo?

It's still freezing like crazy. Downloading Gecko Linux Budgie now to see if that works any differently.

                                      Why not just try Fedora?

The Fedora desktops are not as nice, and the issues are very likely to be there as well. Trying not to spin a lot of wheels testing the Gnome 3 code base over and over again. Gecko is more up to date, and doesn't have any lean towards Gnome under the hood.

Gecko has been running great with Budgie. Will make a new thread for reporting on that tomorrow.

The test with Gecko Linux is working great. No issues like before, sleep works fine. Fingers crossed, but it looks good.
