I can't figure out why people post obvious things about corruption and then act surprised when it gets pointed out - especially when it is the key factor around which the actions to take next depend.
What if the CIO in this case is the auditor company?
You mean what if the CIO is actually a salesman being called a CIO? Then obviously that would change things and just make the CEO to blame directly.
But the CIO would still be lying, there is no excuse for what the CIO has said.

No, it sounds like they got a salesman and called him an auditor. We can't know, I'm just saying what is the most likely sounding thing.
But it's a problem if you have a CIO and don't trust him. Why have two IT people on staff, one given a CIO title, and you don't' trust him, at all? I mean clearly they can't trust him, but it's obvious that this isn't simply "we can't hire good people." They knew enough to come to SW to ask questions, so they know how to get help. They are choosing not to take that help any further, though.
