Project: Moving main laptop to Korora 25 Desktop

I got Korora 25 Gnome reinstalled and fully updated.
I don't think I'm going to mess with any of the graphics stuff. It's working just fine. If there's any games I want to play, and I can't get it to use the nVidia card on Linux, I'll reboot and fire up Win10.
It looks like Google Chrome runs the best on here, much better and smoother than Firefox does.
Now that I know how to keep Korora stable, and have a stable web browser I can use efficiently, I'll let things simmer a few days and get the original intent of this thread reorganized and written.

I'm toying with the idea of trying one more thing before settling on Korora Gnome for my personal laptop:
SteamOS. It's just a modified Debian Jessie distro, and you can go into desktop mode no problem (from what I've read).
It's starting to look like Debian is my best bet on getting this other stuff working. I'm going to test out SteamOS on an older laptop first, just to see what it looks like in desktop mode and such.

Yeah that was a total fail.
No Linux on my personal laptop.
Simple reason: It doesn't work, and is a total time sink to attempt to get it to do what it should do.
I'll keep it on my work laptop because it does work and is not a time sink.

There has to be a Linux disto that works.

This is the only one I can think that might work. ManjaroWell I define "works" as more than boots to the desktop without issue.
For me, "works" means I don't have to waste 100s of hours trying to get the OS to recognize my hardware and it to work correctly.
Just because I can install an OS, and it boots to the desktop, doesn't mean it "works". I could probably load Win95 and boot to the desktop... that doesn't mean it's going to work.
I think the most popular graphics cards in the entire world should work. I think the most popular systems in the world should work. I think the most popular Bluetooth devices should work.
I shouldn't have to wait 10 years for my stuff to work on the newest Linux distros.

Yes, I agree.
Perhaps a matrix of which distros actually boot to a working desktop after updates are ran, vs which distros work with a model's hardware.
For example, so far, my Asus model would be on the list of boots to a working desktop for Fedroa / Korora 25 Gnome... but not be on the list for actually supports the graphics hardware. All other distros so far cause a ton of issues. One of the major issues I have is the fans running at 100%, specifically on Debian builds and Arch.

I know my video card issues are directly related to the issue "bumblebee project" is supposed to fix. But that doesn't work. After doing it correctly, my computer no longer boots to a working desktop, causing me to have to reload.... every time.
If there's a simple fix that actually works, then yes, add the laptop to the list as working with a special note. But so far, none of the "fixes" actually work. And I feel I shouldn't have to be a Linux genius with 100s of hours to waste to have to get things working correctly.

The list should include distros that supports Wayland or Xorg.

I installed Fedora 26 Alpha... because why not I've tried all the other distros.
So far this is my favorite, even over Korora.
I can't comment yet about the video card business, all I know is that so far it is showing the Intel. I have no idea if a game will use the nVidia card or not.

Issue confirmed on Fedora 26. It won't use my nVidia card. If I could find a working way to disable it... maybe I could resolve the issue.
I'll give bumblebee (or something similar) another shot, after researching some more. This is the furthest I've gotten so far: (this is the quickest test I can set up)

Folks, I may be getting somewhere with this... but I have to postpone things for a few days.

Actually, I got it working with bumblebee-project installed. It did not work in Korora 25, but seems to be working in 26.
I prefixed the wow-64.exe with optirun and it just worked. Great framerate too. I just need to work out the mouse capture part yet. But that's not a big deal since I don't play that game much anyways. It was just easy to test with because it's on an external drive. Hopefully it's not like that in NMS.
My cpu fan is still running full speed from the glxgear test, even though it's way cooled down by now. A reboot may fix that, though.
I hope Fedora 26 stays just as it is. "Works" great so far. More so than 25.
