Heading out for my daily walk.

I'd love to walk but someone starting shooting at cops yesterday on center street (2 mins away from me) and is currently holding a hostages.

      This logic is all wrong.

Why would this mean you cannot walk. The area has more policed coverage now than normal.

The known shooter is not running around, they are contained with hostages.

      Don't make excuses.

There is a war going on with the police in this area in general. My co-workers won't walk to lunch when it's nice out. It's a bad area (apparently). @BRRABill would know.

Between the police and who else? The pigeons? (I'll poop on you coppers!)

I read this as coopers and for a second thought you had some vendetta against barrel makers!

Looks like the days of us just getting by with Windows Defender might be coming to an end. 🙂

Again bad logic. Are you police to be a target? Are you acting suspiciously to be targeted by the police?

An innocent bystander was shot to death yesterday.

So live in fear and shut the fuck ip then. Don't blame it as a reason you cannot do something when the reason is your fear.

I have lived and worked in many shit ass areas. I never let a fear of might be stop me from doing a damned thing.

I guess I was just ignorant to the fact that you were so courageous. I have this image of you in my head jaywalking in the middle of a gang war while getting your morning coffee. Wish I were better at photoshop because I'd make it my desktop wallpaper. Carpe Diem I guess

I think that that is how my wife pictures me when I walk through shanty towns in the third world. We used to live in downtown Newark and I used to live off of Chevrolet in Flint, MI, so gangs on the street became just normal.

I'll have to agree with this. I've been to the worst ghettos and areas imaginable, when I was working as a security systems tech. Philly, Camden NJ, Columbus OH, DC (and area), and other cities on the east coast. I still got in and got the job done.

It's literally going on like a street away? Who walks into oncoming danger just because they are stubborn? It's stupid

Well if there's a hostage situation and shooting presently going on "A Street"... it's common sense to not go there. But if there's not an active situation... different story.

It being active is the only reason I'm not going to walk today. If it were resolved I'd be fine. My co-workers dont like walking in this area in general though

To be fair, most of us wouldn't like being there... period. Walking, driving, anything.

Kaspersky looks promising. They've got the NSA on the run now, so that's a good sign.

So live in fear and shut the fuck ip then. Don't blame it as a reason you cannot do something when the reason is your fear.

I have lived and worked in many shit ass areas. I never let a fear of might be stop me from doing a damned thing.

It's a complete shit hole but so is Chicago

Difference is, Chicago has nice parts. 🙂

I actually really like Chicago, it's a cool city.

True, there are no nice parts of Trenton

@scottalanmiller Yeah, it's time for me to do some research on a good solution. From the perspective of management, this will be a never-before-heard-of-expense, so a not-free solution will have me in a steep uphill battle. 😞

What is the impetus behind the move? Defender isn't bad.

Look at Webroot, Cylance, Sophos and Kaspersky.

ESET has been working well. Centrally managed and all that.

@scottalanmiller It's something I've wanted to bring up for a while.

Specifically I have a user with something that Windows Defender apparently cannot remove. Since I don't have any other removal tools to try (and this person is in another state, so nuke and start over isn't an option right now), I'm having to go through process monitor to try to see what's writing to the directory that Windows Defender doesn't like in order to try to figure out what the offending program is -- and try to remove it.

Install the trial version of MBAM and see if it can get rid of it?

At my last place, we had Avast for Business that was centrally managed. It actually ran quite nicely.

That's my last resort. I don't like the idea of (assuming the EULA of the trial prohibits use for production work) using a trial as a free one-off tool, as this problem will occur again and with other users.
