So, I ordered a pair of Unifi labeled SFP modules for another project and they arrived today. I swapped out the ones I had for the new ones - NOPE still not working.

Now I wonder if I have a cable issue?

Follow the numbers in the picture to get to a command prompt on the switch.

Or, you know, just open a normal SSH session to the IP of the switch, but I would hate for you to do something the simple way.

LOL, I could have done that - but I was already in the console at the time, didn't see the point in opening another window.

I have other cables, but they are in use, so I can't try them until after we close.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the RX and TX lines running parallel instead of swapped at one end?

You know I was wondering this myself - but It's no different on this one, than on the HPs I have.. so either the HPs support MDIX and these don't, or I have a cabling issue.

So, for example, you have the orange fiber line on the left on end A and it's on the right side on end B? Not trying to sound demeaning or anything, just making sure we're on the same page.

You might be able to get away with not flipping lines on the HP, if it auto-senses and the Unifi doesn't. Just a thought...

Yeah - this was something I was recently thinking about as well.

While my cables themselves are assembled differently, they are both straight through.

The housings don't make it easy to swap them.

                            OK interesting.

I moved one of the cables from a working setup to one of the new switches, and even before I could get it plugged in, the connection indicator on the new switch lit right up!

So... either a bad patch cord or two, or a bad main run.

*edit - well nope.. not bad - I was able to swap the fibers on the long run side and it came right up.

And the verdict is in. The main line between buildings is bad. 😞

Are you adding an additional switch or replacing one?

Well now I get to have egg on my face yet again - the cable is fine (though that doesn't explain why it didn't work when I moving a working switch and it's patch cords onto it).

I was able to swap the fibers on the long run side (each fiber was it's own connector). Upon doing so, the link came up instantly.

Now I'm going to put my original SFPs back in place and see if those work.

On a side note - it was cool seeing STP kick in and kill (block) the wired connection I have in place once the faster connection to the same network came online.

I'm adding. And while I can cascade from one switch to the next, since I have the fiber link there, why not use it? 🙂

                                    I'm glad it's working now.

                                      Swapped and it's working great.

I can now say that 10Gtek stuff is compatible with Unifi Switches.

Not sure this really matters anymore since Ubiquiti now sells their own branded SFPs and they are very reasonably priced.
