@thwr Totally. I'm like a game snob though. I started playing indie games and I just don't see the merit of these big games anymore. They aren't interesting or testing boundaries or anything. It's sad.

      but I'm powering on anyway.

Roberts Space Industries, if you don't know who is pushing this one, then you've lost your gaming card. (Seriously, Chris Roberts was the one who did the Wing Commander and Freelancer series.) I gave them more money than I thought I had last time I looked at my total, and I still don't mind.

They've just released the first public (pre-Alpha at this point) persistence. They currently have space combat, station landing, FPS, and a mission system in place. They're also working on a single player campaign that you won't need an internet connection to play.

They're going to have everything they can possible do in the game, because it was completely crowd funded and looks like it will continue to raise enough money to continue development well beyond release.

This thing is MASSIVE, but only in the very beginning stages still. They're also pushing the computer hardware harder than anyone. My gaming machine at home with an i7-3770, AMD 980 2GB, and 32GB RAM has trouble keeping up (tho I'm hoping that's more a networking optimization issue, will see.)

I agree that most companies are not really pushing the capabilities today's computers offer. This Star Citizen looks to be different, and Chris Roberts has a long history of successfully pushing the limits of a computers processing power.

I'm really excited for Star Citizen. I backed it when they first announced and have been keeping up with it... Fortunately they have a settings mode that my six year old gaming rig can play on. Although I haven't touched it in a few months.

I still don't have the controls memorized to the point I can use them. Of course I'm also kinda waiting on my Freelancer MAX to get from hanger to flyable.

I think the single player campaign will go a long way to refining the controls. I tried dog fighting with a full flight stick when it first came out. Couldn't get the hang out it.

Yeah, I want a tutorial to run through. I actually have to do the thing, reading about it doesn't stick.

Is Star Citizen going to be multiplayer? I'm assuming something akin to EVE?

Star Citizen is what the single player story line is being called. It also has multiplayer, which is what the publicly released things are concentrating on currently.

More like mashing EVE, Halo, and Mass Effect into a single thing. Let me see if I can remember what all they're working on off the top of my head.

              • Space Flight
              • Dogfighting
              • Transportation
              • Mining
              • Communications
              • Planetary Landing
              • Marine raids
              • Boarding actions
              • Citizenship/Piracy

Basically, you're going to have what would normally be 4 different titles in a single game.

That's pretty insane. I saw a video on it but it wasn't explained. Did they explain the way the economy is going to work?

                EDIT: Apparently they did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0qXEAqYIH8

Green Man Gaming has a mystery game sale:
                              https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/mystery-bundle-1-pack/
                              for 20 cents a game.

I bought one and got Plants vs Zombies 2: Garden Warfare, which I miraculously didn't own yet. Score!

@Nic said in Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play:

Green Man Gaming has a mystery game sale:
                                  https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/mystery-bundle-1-pack/
                                  for 20 cents a game.

I bought one and got Plants vs Zombies 2: Garden Warfare, which I miraculously didn't own yet. Score!

Any idea what random games may come in the pack?
