Well you can request recovery media here from Dell Directly.

No need to break any laws.

Nothing wrong with getting a media copy from people. It's the key you can't share, media is fine to share.

In order to take advantage of the Dell Vista OEM Key, he has to use the OEM Media.

The media we might have, wouldn't be for that model PC. So by installing it, he'd be breaking the ToS with Dell and Microsoft.

That is just simply a matter of changing the Key.

I don't know how many rabbit trails you want to chase, but this might be worth checking out.

Last I knew, the media per model was no longer done. That was how they used to do it long ago. Any media that is not for the key will not work so it's not something you have to track.

So... buy another key then... which you would get the ISO when you buy the key (in most cases)...

And since he's asking for the media, I'm assuming he doesn't want to spend money on an OS... So that's out of the question.

Dell doesn't do it by model.

HP discs only work with one specific model, but Dell discs work with all models.

He already has an OEM key.

When you work on friend's PCs you end with alot of work and high expectations with very little gratitude.

In a lot of cases, it doesn't. And they don't sell keys in that way.

I don't understand your line of reasoning here. He owns an OS already. He has a key. This is 100% legit. He just needs a legit copy of the installation media for it. This is a very common practice and totally legal and expected under Microsoft licensing rules.

It's so common, in fact, that most vendors today don't even supply media by default and expect you to get it somehow.

All he needs is the Dell Vista OEM media which is free to copy and provide to others.

Another thread asking a simple question to help the less fortunate, and it's driven down to the barn of linux, licensing and lashing (tongue) and shot.

No Vista home ISO files here sorry. In fact I think the only Vista image I have is an HP recovery set (2 ISO files) for Vista Business.

                                        Thanks everyone.

I am running under the same impression as Scott.

I have a legal license, and OEM license (the sticker is on the PC). The HD died. I don't want to pay Dell $20 to mail me a set of recovery media.

The best option would be to get a Dell OEM Vista install disk. That Disk should see my license key in the BIOS and auto register.

In the case where I can't get a Dell OEM Home edition, then I'll take any OEM edition and enter my CD Key and it should register.

Until recently, MS didn't publish the ISO's, Dell and HP surely never have that I know of.. and I'm not sure I want to trust any other sources.

It's one thing to trust one of you, but a random website with an ISO.. yeah... no.
