They have added RAID 10? That's awesome. It was RAID 5 exclusively the last time that they showed it to us.

He wants to know if this is a good enough product to handle his needs to store backups.

          The answer, IMO, is yes.

Oh okay, yes it seems just fine. And for backups and considering that it uses RE drives (and only four of them) you can safely use RAID 5 here to gain capacity. If you do not need the extra capacity, RAID 10 of course.

                3439 QR = 944 $ (include 4 HD, 3TB each)
                4119 QR = 1131$ (include 4 HD, 4TB each)

Seems reasonably close to the prices in the US.

Those are only $100 - $200 more than in the US. So not bad.

the default RAID is 5, but i'm thinking to change it to RAID 10, i think it is better than 5

i'm planning to buy the one with 4 HD, 3 TB each, in this case i will get 6 TB with RAID 10 which is enough for me

Will be faster and even more reliable.

                            Sounds like a good plan.

Like I said, RAID 10 is always best unless it doesn't meet your needs. Preference should not be a factor, it would always be what is needed for the situation. RAID 10 is faster and safer than RAID 5, but your capacity will be 6TB instead of 9TB. So unless the extra 3TB are useful, RAID 5 would have no benefit.

This looks like a good deal for this device.

For anyone just needing drives, Newegg has a $380 deal:

SuperCombo Storage Pack: 4X Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD20EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Can't use those in RAID 5 with any level of safety, the WE EX devices are designed with the assumption of (but apparently no longer the lock in) of RAID 5.

I see your point, but then again this is a generic thread regarding the device. It's not a discussion of where it can be purchased in Qatar. 🙂
