@Carnival-Boy H1B is the standard work visa for foreign professionals. It is the only visa that is normally involved with IT work.

If you, as a UK IT pro, was to request a position in the US and lacked a path to citizenship (married a local, had some claim, etc.) you would require an H1B to legally work here. You specifically would be a good example of an H1B candidate.

very interesting. My only concern is with continuous development, will they keep the product / service updated if it goes live?

      It's google. So not likely.

Can only make those connections so small before you have nothing left. I was reading about this somewhere else Sunday, can't find the link at the moment.

@Katie I think it got longer than normal support due to the fact that it could still run the old code.

Not sure. I've worked for loads of small, relatively low-tech manufacturing companies in the UK, and they all sounds like the description in the link to various degrees. It is a source of constant frustration to me. Sometimes I think I'm in the wrong industry and would be better off elsewhere. But mostly I love it. I love small manufacturing companies and have made it my life's work to drag them kicking and screaming from the 18th century to the 21st century. And this is now what I do. I could move to another manufacturing company but I'm sure I'll be faced with the same challenges and frustrations.

Not any time in the near future. For smaller environments, it may be an option, but present CPUs and busses don't have the horsepower to handle a heavy workload like ASICs currently can. 10 years from now, perhaps.

Yes it has been down for a couple hours here. We have all moved over to Skype for company communications because Lync is so flaky anyway. Now this is just one more reason to stay there.
