At least it is hard to hack since most of the hackers are too young to realize what they are even looking at!

I have follwed the EFF postings about the TPP for years. It is the single worst thing to ever be negotiated. I can only hope that things like the above can get spread around and shine a light on this before it actually gets signed.

Does it run a flavor of linux that allows it to run all linux apps, most importantly GUI based linux apps?

That's what a full OS is. That was the point that it's not a phone OS but a full desktop.

That looks OK I guess, I guess I'm just jaded and really rather like the Windows style icons/start bar, etc.

I have to assume they are copy writed though?

No, they just aren't that popular. There are skins and stuff that look just like them. Few people choose them, though.

OK Chris Up Vote this if it's right. 🙂

If the user of the Windows VM is at the hardware device that is running the VM. Generally a type 2 hypervisor, such as VirtualBox, a retail key is acceptable. but so is SA and VDA.

If the users are remotely accessing the VM, then SA or VDA are required. (one or the other)

There are *caveats to this statement. But generally correct.
*You can license Windows VDA for a device to run the VM locally, but only if that device has a Windows 7 Pro version or better. Otherwise, yes you can use a full retail license of Windows to run locally on the device OR Windows SA.

Which means that if this proves to be a really good design, that it will be two decades till we can have another one.

Does it though? Considering modern technology, who know, perhaps they can build it in 1/4 the time now? I'm really curious what the leading cause for the time spent was?

In the 20 years it took them to make it we've had so many advancements in computing power, industrial design, etc, etc...

I'm sure with the experience that they get from this that they can do the next one faster, but only a little. The staff on a twenty year project are not likely to be around long enough to do another one.

WD's own devices use RE drives in RAID 5.

      I'd still pass.

Yeah, it is less than an ideal design, especially when they could easily have made R6 and R10 options.
