Sent my resume out today for a much higher paying position in a much better company. The job hasn't been posted yet so I may be the only person aware of them looking right now, which would be fantastic.

Basic income would indeed be an improvement in many ways. I believe/hope it should/will come with a shift in our culture towards a more open and enlightened society. Unfortunately change takes a long time. We are a stubborn species.

And vengeful. A lot of the people who work will want the people who choose not to not to get anything. That's the problem. You have to accept that the workers take care of the non-workers. But because working is purely optional, hopefully that fixes a lot.

How do we move towards this though? Many countries (especially the ones I care about most, Canada/USA) have trashed their education systems. I would begin there and build that back as a foundational block of society.

It's a big project and it makes me want to run for office.

If the pay was right, I would have... I like a challenge, lol.

      ha it wasn't

      How could it be?

I don't see how it could even be 20% higher than minimal wage. A setup like that should've been erased from history entirely.

We use Mattermost at work. I can't say much for RocketChat, but I do really like Mattermost. I'm a fan of the IRC style chat apps and the ability to add them into automation and such.

I ended up rolling out Mattermost at my last workplace. I didn't do any testing of Rocketchat because Mattermost checked all of our boxes. It was fast, clean, stable, had all of the clients that we needed (Windows, Mac, Linux), and the documentation was solid. I wished that 3rd party authentication (AD in our case) wasn't a pay feature, but that was a minimal consideration at our size.

RocketChat has LDAP functionality for free

My ex girlfriends dad was really into Abraham Lincoln historically. I said I found the most accurate, true to life account of the life of lincoln in a documentary format. He was super excited and then super let down.

Talking to people in India who are telling me it's against policy to give me access to systems that I am required to use in order to do my job...FML

They are just doing their job... exactly the way they have been instructed to do it. Word by word.

Not saying it's the same with all the people from India (that would be stupid, there are > 1 billion people), but I've heard a story once where an Indian company was tasked to build a small website. "There shall be links on the left side in a menu". They did just that: Putting the word "links" multiple times there.

I love getting told to send emails and open tickets when we've done this, MANY times, and we constantly just get ignored...

Maybe you missed to add some keywords like "inquiry", "invoice" or "order" 🙂

Or words like "DO YOUR F***ING JOB ***HOLES!" Well, maybe not...

Everyone could say that to you too though. I try to give people the patience I want. Granted I'm human and I'm depleted of resources sometimes.

It just gets frustrating being told to send emails and open tickets, when we've done that multiple times, had them closed without follow-up or just blatantly ignored, and we ask again, because there are only a few things we do here onsite, and I'm missing access to one of the most key systems I need, as well as the system I use most often...and if my coworker isn't here when I need that done, it doesn't get done right now. Including an AD password reset...lovely right?

I get it man. Believe me. The owner of my company literally does not want to hear a single excuse and I think it's very much to my benefit. I didn't realize how many excuses I made before I started working here. I don't blame anymore anymore and I take everything upon myself. If something happens outside of my control I just accept responsibility and he respects me for it. I actually think @JaredBusch is very similar to my current boss. I think I'm going to grow a lot professionally but also as a person working here.

Idk if you guys remember me complaining about Laura not wanting to move the power outlet into the center of the wall (when we were building our house), but after weeks of discussion I just gave up. I knew eventually that she would realize how wrong she was.

      What we could've had:
      1.jpg

      What we have:
      2.jpg

I put in a call to our electrician to get an estimate, but it's easily going to cost us 3-4x the amount we would've spent during the build. At least Laura will learn to listen to me next time (she won't)

Most iPad aren't roaming between, they just lose connection completely then come back from what I understand.

With this, I wouldn't jump to thinking that the iPads are the issue - I want to, but I would suspect the wireless is getting dropped.

Have you check the APs for uptime etc?

Yes, Last night while they were having issues and I was looking at the Unifi Portal and uptime was 9+ hours on all APs . And I saw that wifi Experience was dropping on all APs randomly.

Not trying to throw a wrench into this because you guys may be correct, but at my last job we had issues with apple devices roaming correctly. It ended up being an issue with the device judging the signal strength correctly and the AP's were slightly too close together. We unplugged the closest AP to the one in use and it ended up working flawlessly after that. Just something to think about. Too much overlap can cause weirdness.
