      From the Chive...

When I was backpacking around Ethiopia I ended up staying overnight in some tiny little town whilst waiting for my bus to my next destination.

I saw someone walking down the street completely naked with a block of wood clenched between his bum cheeks. It was that strange and illogical that there are times where I question whether or not I saw it.

A travel bench that you can take with you or half man, half tree. Either way, he's just as God made him you puritan pukes!

Took me a minute to figure out if this was real or not, I thought maybe it was photoshopped, but turns out it isn't. The price made me wonder and that the sign was so difficult to read, but it turns out that you can buy Snuggle toilet paper for TT$89.00 or US$13.20. Based on that and the Carib Caribbean beer in the background, it must be from Trinidad and Toboggan (yes, you read it, that's what I wrote). STILL THOUGH why is there a free sample of toilet paper at all? Are they daring you to take it to the bathroom? Or ... use it right there?

@scottalanmiller that last one, the guy totally goes "MOTHER F"

How could he not hear a car roll away inches behind him? Seems pretty fake.

The sarcastic clapping of the biker guy in the background almost makes me lend toward it being real. If he's deaf, hard of hearing, or there was a lot of other noise (like motorcycles) in the background it could happen. Something similar happened to a friend of mine, we went to the store in his car, and as we were walking away, it slipped out of gear or something and rolled back down the hill of the parking lot, we heard nothing, I just happened to look back.

Microsoft is in the early stages of a project, codenamed “Anaheim”, that is currently slated to replace Microsoft Edge for Windows 10. Instead of continuing to use the company’s EdgeHTML engine, Anaheim will reportedly be built upon Chrome’s open source Blink engine.

Cause Opera move was really successful. /sarcarsm

I certainly don't miss the era of Opera with all the ads and inability to properly render almost anything yet with people just fawning over it ridiculously. Granted that was nearly 2 decades ago but it was more annoying then, and now Opera is like a slower version of Chrome.

This happened to me not 5 minutes ago, trying to find my damn gloves to take out the trash

Why do you need gloves to take out the trash?

They're trash gloves because the big trash containers are covered in I don't even know what. Last time I did it without the gloves, just briefly lifting up the lid the a stick, somehow I still had the smell on my hand, it wouldn't wash off for at least 24 hours.

Maybe a former repair that was badly done since it does look nearly square? I feel like maybe they put it up and just painted over it, they didn't even bother trying to do much anything else

      @Francesco-Provino said in Cat5/6 100 meters:

No reason NOT to use fiber. For that distance, fiber is cheaper, faster, more reliable.

Not faster, same speed. But otherwise, yeah. Let to go wrong, just easy.

Indeed, assuming same potential bandwidth of 1gb/s, while fibre will go around 0.1c faster than copper (contrary to popular belief, it doesn't go the speed of light, because it's still bouncing around all the way down, it isn't going straight like... like from a star or whatever), it still has to be changed from light to copper and back on either end.

Over long distances as well (and I mean quite a long way), the light itself can modulate slightly and depending on all sorts of things (lossless vs lossy with various other checks) in the end most setups you aren't gaining a whole lot unless you take advantage of either the ability to go longer distances (like the OP) which does increase speed because by the time you reach 150 meters with copper vs fibre, copper adds probably 50ms or so depending on the line.

So over 150m fibre may be slightly faster than copper, but not really significantly noticeable. Given how crappy a lot of cat 5/6 cable is, it might up being pretty noticeable at such a distance.

friday morning, one coffee in. Grey sky AGAIN. wonder if blue will ever be seen again.

      Happy Friday !!

Thank you. Coffee #2 has just landed on the desk.

I just finished my 7th cup of coffee for the day .
      I can hear colors 😄

      hahaha, that's great, love it.
7 may be getting a bit up there though.

i remember when i was young and stupid, early twenties, we had a strong cup of coffee contest at work. I had 23 teaspoons of coffee in the cup, you had to finish the cup to win the contest.
i was pinging for days. i do NOT recommend it.

hey im in my "Stupid 20s" 😄 hahahaha

go for it brother, don't hold back.
i look back at my twenties, i had tons of fun, just wish i was sober more often 😉

If you look back on your twenties and remember a lot of it, you did it wrong.

I'm not even sure I had my twenties!

Same here, I think I was in stasis on the way to this planet.

... I've already said too much
