Use the background, rather than the interactive, installer. MC has both a GUI required, and a non-GUI required installer for exactly that reason.

I'll give that a try later on my next test install

Linux has absolutely no connection here. Nothing on the Windows command line has any association with anything on Linux, and Linux is no more or less "command line" than Windows is. This is a 100% Windows thing.
sconfig is a good point, have you tried that in the terminal? I'm assuming it is a no go?

I know, I was just saying I don't do command line whether it be linux or windows much, except for basic commands i've used all my life (I know your heavy in linux, which is why I mentioned linux. I know you love the command line 🙂 haha ).

and I can run sconfig. but cant do anything with it.

You only need it because you are on the wrong tab. Switch to the terminal, rather than the desktop.

I am not command line nor linux person. So I don't want to have to look up every command, so having the sconfig screen helps.

There are certain things (in sconfig) that you need to be on the console (or use win admin tools). That will not work in Terminal (you prob can do it with commands, but I don't want to). I also do not like how terminal looks, there is no scrolling, and the font is kind of big. When I do an IP Config, I can't see part of whats there since it rolls off the page. I prefer the classic cmd look. Again, just my opinion. I'm not asking or saying how it looks should be changed.

Also, when I installed MC, I had to click install, so I needed the console (which brought up the MC gui install box). Now I know there is probably a better way to do it, I just didn't want to have to look it up. There is partial gui still in core from what I see, not a lot, but there is some. For a beginner in command line stuff, it helps fill the gaps and makes learning it a little easier

Reading the github that @JaredBusch linked , SC has no issues with it. I personally really don't care if it gets fixed as I was just seeing how core looked/worked with Windows Admin Center.

SAM, if you look at my screen shot, that is from Desktop mode, and its asking for CAD. You would have to do CAD to go in (which is how I installed MC not sure if there was a way to do it in terminal, probably is, but did not want to figure it out). I haven't messed with it (Svr Core) nor power shell enough to know any more. I just was pointing out what I notices, that's all. I know I could use Win Admin Tools (Honolulu) to do stuff, which is cool so far.

2019 Core should not allow the GUI to pass through. You would just use it to attach to the terminal.

OK, makes since. I get the login prompt, just cant pass the ctrl-alt-del, which is why i asked. I am only messing with it in lab environment. I am really liking MC :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes:

I am just used to being able to scroll in the command box. Terminal doesn't allow me to scroll from what I see (unless I am missing something, as I haven't had too much time to play with it.)

just wondering if it is supposed to work on server 2019 core.. Nothing production so no issue if not. but got it installed and when trying to to ctr-alt-del, it doesnt pass it thru.

Would be cool if I could use ctrl-alt-ins to pass thru as ctrl alt del.

Will be updating to new release 🙂 shortly. Thanks so much for all your hard work

It can be nice for that. But you could just fake the audit and do it accurately if you want.

True, but it helped to have backing proof of the audit saying we where out of compliance to scare the owner..lol
Nice to know we can refuse it tho. lol.

I had it once, and thought the same thing, mandatory. But, even if I knew it was voluntary, I probably still would have done it anyway to force the company I worked for to get compliant (and upgrade a bunch of old dyeing PCs). So for me the self audit helped 🙂 lol.

How is the speed on Amazon drive? The price make me think they have a narrow pipe in and out, but I haven't tried it out.

Going up I was maxing my connection @ 20mbps. I havent actually tried restoring or anything. I added a bunch of stuff to the NAS today. So I will look at what Unifi states during the backup time. I am almost out of space on Amazon, so got to purchase more.

How do you like B2? Whats your avg cost per TB if you dont mind me asking.

I looked at it, but went with Amazon Drive since it was $60/TB/Yr. and used Hyper Backup. I would like something cheaper, but don't think I'll find much cheaper than that. lol.

@travisdh1 haha, true on the waiting part. something always better is going to come out.

I will go ahead and pick up the 2700x.. Wish they had CPU only, as I don't need the cooler as I just got a new one last month, but I don't see one anywhere like how the 1700x was.

Whats your thoughts on waiting for 3700x (provided it doesn't completely die by then).

I heard supposed to be out soon, just haven't seen any kind of dates yet.. Looks like the 3700x will be double the core count from what I saw, and will run on AM4, and hopefully x370 chipset.

    • RE: Gaming Rig Issues

Thanks Dustin, pretty much what I was thinking.. Since I don't deal with this kind of stuff and am dumb in this area, needed help 🙂

He streams at 720p for the reason above.

CPU still gotta do a lot of work (data for game, obs, face cam, and everything else), and if its flaky, could be sending wrong info or whatever or struggling to keep up.

I guess i'll order the 2700x since it states its compatible with the board. Sorry for being so dumb on this stuff..lol

@DustinB3403 said in Gaming Rig Issues:

So the question needs to be picked apart.
Is the UPLOAD (actual upload slow) and the service is stating "your connection sucks and won't work for streaming" or is the preview choppy and the system super sluggish while attempting to stream?

sorry, I don't stream nor game so really don't know what he does, as most of it is foreign to me, but I can tell you this much.. The system is still usually running fine when playing/streaming. No difference, just the occasional lock up, prob due to damaged CPU

When running OBS, it seems he can get max of maybe 1-2mbps before he starts loosing frames, and viewers notice the choppiness, but the stream is ugly for the viewer when they are watching.

Now when my NAS is backing up (at night), it is the full 15-20mbps with no issues (when looking at UniFi dashboard)

So in that case, if it is an ISP issue, its either being throttled (which even I doubt), or its just real busy (everyone on internet). There are alot of condos in the area, and Spectrum is the main source for internet.

The other option, CPU/Hardware issue or software setting issue, or both. I guess first thing is to replace the CPU. Hopefully I can send the old one into AMD for warranty replacement, and sell it.
