@storageninja said in Ubiquiti WiFi vs... everyone:

      Sure:

      1. The vendor itself doesn't provide phone support. I was talking to an Aruba sales guy last week on the plane and he was laughing about this when I mentioned I was using it at my house now. That's a non-starter for a lot of people (yes their forums are fine and I get why they do it as it causes support case deflection).

      2. Cisco Clean Air, and the like can operate better in some crazy RF hostile environments.

      3. Security integration like NAC with dynamic VLAN. In compliance shops, or people who care about edge security this is a thing. Other SDN integration might matter to some.

      4. Opaque finances. SEC investigations in Feb, long term lack of a CFO. Really bizarre stuff for a public company. There is a crazy short squeeze going on right now something's going to blow. Networks are labor and capital intensive with little return on investment if you have to rip and replace.

I'm guessing that you're talking about Ubiquity in your point list.

I'm looking at two quotes for Ubiquity and Aruba side by side and there's a difference between the quotes of over $800 per device. Hell, even the POE injector from Aruba is more than 3 times higher than the one from Ubiquity.

      Am I missing something obvious?

@WrCombs If you're using serial / RS232, I'm guessing that your driver might be outputting in ASCII and might need to be set to ANSI or from 8 bit to 7 bit. Check these against other sites and see what you come up with. The repeated characters are representations of solid lines or simple graphics via the various protocols.

At least I've run into this before with a telnet app that we use here.

      0_1536843443200_netowrk error.PNG

No, because I carefully never do that, lol.

I didnt do this, this is from someone saying " This is how I think it goes" and changing settings.

      Also something to avoid 😉

Random people who don't know the basics, making completely crazy configuration changes... that's a disaster waiting to happen. Imagine if they were doing that on a PCI network or something 😉

They did! we use 2 NICs, one for internet, one for the PoS system so they are "seperated" the best they can be. They stacked and added IP's to the PoS NIC, So all of the PoS were accessing the internet...

Sure, but the internal POS network doesn't have a gateway to some place else inside it, right?
So you don't have a gateway on that network interface.

I dont believe there is a gateway, its just communicating within the PoS and the back office.

If that were the case then I shouldn't be getting this message correct?

Shouldn't. The warning seems like it would be genuine - it's warning you that someone messed up the configuration.

When I used to have these type of setups, I would set the gateway to the POS and set the metric to 10 for either that NIC or that subnet. That's assuming that you're talking directly to the one and only POS and nothing else on that network. While you don't have to alter the metric, it helped stop Windows from wigging out seeing two NICs or two IPs and two gateways on one NIC. If you experiment, you can always put it back. Different VASCs and different brands & processors specify what's ok with them. Because PCI.

@jmoore said in Spare box is sitting idle. I7 32GB RAM. Which flavor should I run:

@scotth My workstation at work is kvm with fedora under it. I use windows 10 and opensuse vm's under it through virtual machine manager. It works very smooth and never had a bit of trouble.

I never tried OpenSuse. After I get this going, I'm going to setup Hyper-V on my brother's server. I may give it a go. He's running Kodi on Windows which works fine. I want to setup a Kodi only box and feed it out. I'm doing this at home on XCP-ng and it works great. I use the Emby addon and it streams beautiful to anything in the house no matter the original resolution.

      This is a weird one,
But has anyone ever worked in Sales on here?

I'm positive many people will have worked in sales.

      really?
      what about you?

I have to sell my self on not taking myself out of this ratrace every day I wake up. . .

      Dark.

Not so dark for a Friday.

Friday is supposed to be a lightened mood man.

Starting dealing with some of the lower life forms known as "co-co-workers".

      Co-co-workers?
      never heard of that before.
      I've heard of Co-workers. and they're a species of their own .

co-workers work in the same department as you, co-co-workers work in everything else.

      Oh, Gotcha.
okay, I'm guess observing them in their natural habitat is probably mind boggling?

Yeah, completely mind blowing. 1 Guy thinks accepting a calendar invite but sending no response (even the automatic one) lets the meeting organizer know "you're" attending.

      WTF. . .

so he just clicked "accept" then canceled out before it sent?

      I feel bad for him..

just got my third "Hey come talk to us about a job" in the last 2 weeks.

      Enjoy being wanted. 😄

it kinda came out of no where too.
I just getting a LinkedIN wasn't a bad idea eh?

LinkedIn communications tend to be better than stuff from Monster, etc. The latter usually results in calls about developer positions, while my resume has zero development experience listed.

The random "I got your resume off the internet and was wondering if you wanted a job 6 hours away that pays a quarter of what you're looking for" connections are the best.

My gf is currently job seeking, she gets lots of those. The other hilarious ones are "work from home, $3k / week, just for receiving and unboxing shipments!" They don't give any company name or location... best case scenario is that you're unboxing / reshipping stuff from overseas sites like Wish. Worst case would be you're receiving shipments of drugs at your house.

Here's another thing that helps sort out the issues. This command examines the cbs.log and dumps the results in a text file.

      findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Google the entries and address the issues one at a time.
