Just talked to the contractor, we are on schedule for granite countertop installation Monday!!! Which means we are looking at maybe Wednesday to start moving back into the kitchen!
Also, stand by for photo dump...
Any particular reason why you picked granite or was it the look that settled it?
Granite is really durable, my girlfriend bakes a lot, and it grows wild in the mountains north of here. So price and availability play into that as well. We looked at some quartz (cultured), it was nice but was only available in different shades of white. The color we're getting is a nice cool gray and white, called "Luna Pearl".
Here's a quick pic of the actual countertop:
@Obsolesce that's just poor cropping on my part. But the ruler could be handy for measuring the size of crystalline formations in the granite...

Makes sense!
My preference is stainless steel, like commercial kitchens usually have, but granite is a great choice, especially for baking.
Kitchen looks great so far BTW!
I thought about stainless but didn't price it. A friend who is an exec chef told me not to, so did my contractor. I guess in this area it's not as in demand when buying a house, that's always a consideration.
@nadnerB can confirm, I lived in Florida for about 6 years.

Good morning all... I'm testing out one of those mushroom based "coffee alternative" beverages. Well, this one has a little bit of cold brew extract (?). Tastes pretty good, but a bit on the weak side. Like a mocha with less espresso and more milk. I will report back on the effects.
weird. what's the purpose of the alternative in this case? No caffeine? More caffeine? Alternative energy source?
It has a little caffeine in it, the rest of it is supposed to supercharge how your body uses it. Pretty good energy boost, but it leaves me wanting in the flavor department, so I made a pot of coffee anyway. But the mushroom stuff gives me WAY more energy and focus than the same 5-6oz of coffee does.

What's it called, and how does it price check against coffee?
This one is called Everyday Dose, they have a 7 day trial for $5 shipping. Looks like it's about $1.33 per day (1 per day), of course, it's a subscription model. Worth a try if caffeine doesn't always do the trick.
I'm about to go start swapping long network cables for short ones. Obviously I should do it since I was the one who provided the correct lengths and quantities to buy before we started the project.
So... Dell calls me the other day about one of our servers potentially having defective RAM. I go to the data center today to pick up the parts.... 1 big box with 24 smaller boxes inside... Each small box contained only 1 stick of RAM!!!! Leaving 3 empty slots per box!!! They only gave me 9 return labels, which makes no sense. I only need 6 boxes to return everything.
Mixing down a recently unearthed live show by my old reggae band. 4 whole sets, apparently no rhythm guitar, but we did have a trumpet player/percussionist and 2 wacky room mics.
Rainy Saturday... Not helping the effort to dry out the new kitchen floor. The water line to the ice maker had been leaking long enough for water to appear between the boards. Luckily it's fancy new laminate that is waterproof. The manufacturer guarantees it for 72 hours completely underwater, and my contractor said it's fine as long as we get it dry. So every fan and space heater has been called to activate duty, and I got a dehumidifier to boot.

Making sure that nobody breaks anything before the holidays
That's what I told everyone in the morning meeting.
@Pete-S no doubt. I'm trying to put the list together for the shutdowns. But I also just double checked the email alerts on the iDRACs, everything is working.

About to audition a new drummer!
Is it hard to drum up a drummer?
Ah, good one! But yes, it has been an agonizing experience. All the good drummers who actually conduct themselves in a professional manner are in 3 bands already. Until last night, the ones that have shown up were grossly unprepared. What part of "learn 2 or 3 songs for the audition" is ambiguous? We gave them all the time they needed, their choice of songs, etc. So many amateurs. Which is really sad when they are in their 40s (like us). You've had half a lifetime to develop some kind of work ethic.

Damn... 3rd chair is supposed to be just right. Make sure you're using FTP (Fairy Tale Protocol).

Oy... now that the holidays are over things have kicked back into high gear around here. I came in at 5am to patch, and had meetings from 8:30 to 11:30.
Tomorrow is already stacking up to be another day of great fun.
Same here. No more weekends free for a while.
That's entirely too much fun. Gotta make some music some time, you know.
Wednesdays and Sundays are carved out as music time.
