@tim_g said in PowerShell Regex - How to remove everything after first line?:

      Actually, I'm sticking to this:

      $compName = Get-WmiObject win32_ComputerSystem | Select-Object -ExpandProperty Name if ($compName -match "WINDOWS") { $dellTag = Get-WmiObject win32_bios | Select-Object -ExpandProperty SerialNumber Rename-Computer -NewName $dellTag -Force -Restart } Exit

Compared to sed, that makes my head hurt. Glad you got it sorted, and an example for when I'll need to do the same thing.

It looks like it is supported, but I haven't tested it yet:

      https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/states/all/salt.states.pkg.html#salt.states.pkg.group_installed

      That's cool.

Looks like a neat idea. Treat the OS as a database, standard query language across platforms.

So forget my comments. It turned out maybe your instructions are fine. (Maybe, maybe not. I don't know, but will reinstall using your instructions again just to verify.) My problem was that I was opening up the firewall ports in the wrong zone. The default Install I used made only 1 zone on the master called "FedoraServer." Opening ports on this zone solved the issue. See this post from this morning: https://mangolassi.it/topic/15620/salt-stack-communication-issues/2

I managed to fix it. I'm not entirely sure what the fix was because I made too many changes at once.

I think it was an issue where SELinux suddenly didn't like Network Manager touching that file for some reason. No idea why that would suddenly be an issue.

Anyways, the four main changes I did:

      First

      # Cleared the contents of: /etc/resolv.conf

      Second

      ausearch -c 'dnsmasq' --raw | audit2allow -M my-dnsmasq semodule -X 300 -i my-dnsmasq.pp

      Third

      ausearch -c 'NetworkManager' --raw | audit2allow -M my-NetworkManager semodule -X 300 -i my-NetworkManager.pp

      Fourth
      reboot now

I noticed when installing workstation from the server netinstall, that it uses the default partition scheme of the server compare to the workstation installer.

      like me right now

That's the typical gripe I see from the threads I've read. People spend more time complaining about the syntax and structure of a question, rather than (often) applying some common sense to understand what's being asked.

      Yep... basically this.

Yeah.... the value of a site like Mangolassi.it just keeps growing.

More that the value of others keeps fading away πŸ™‚

Well, Arduino Sketch is a C library that C or C++ can call. So no, Sketch doesn't imply C++, nor is it likely, nor is it reasonable in any case where someone doesn't know what they are doing. C would be the default choice.

Out of curiosity, why could he not make the throw away VM on top of Hyper-V?

He doesn't have Hyper-V, and we don't give users access to the Hyper-V Servers. No SCVMM, so no granular control over VMs and HyperV.

Oh, I guess that I was confused.

As I understand it, that particular one makes use of all of the data Google has collected on you. If you are logged into your Google account, just clicking the button is frequently enough. So having a robot click a button proves nothing. πŸ˜› But if it was just suppose to be a robot pushing a button - well, i guess they got it. /sigh (i.e. I didn't find it funny/humorous)

@tim_g said in RAID 5 URE Clarity Question:

      Yeah I do see.

I experienced 2 of them in almost a single week. Though they were just for testing hardware and didn't contain any real data so no losses... They were very old drives too so it was expected after forcing a rebuild.

One was a 5TB raw RAID 5 (5x 1tb drives), the other was 1tb something raw, a bunch of old 15k 300gb SAS.

Actually the 5TB one got a URE, the other one, a 2nd drive failed, not a URE.

Actually it is unknown if UREs go up over time. Likely they do, but the statistics are only average rate and don't state when or what variables contribute to higher or lower rates.

@tim_g hyperoo works well as an agent solution. Well I've not tested it but if you dig a bit in specs it is not an hypervisor level backup. So you can use veeam agent free.

Maybe this will be the Gnome release that convinces me to enjoy Gnome. πŸ˜›

It depends if you were ever interested in Gnome at all.

My main beef with Gnome is that without an extra tool package, files and directories that you place in the /home/whateverUser/Desktop directory don't actually appear on the desktop. It's been a while since I've given Gnome a chance (notwithstanding a recent thread), so maybe my gripe is no longer valid.

I believe Gnome Tweak has a option to enable Desktop. But it was never an issue for me because I dislike anything on there except for wallpaper.

I know with Elementary OS, they removed Desktop folder.

Yeah, my gripe isn't a functional one. It's more of an aesthetic gripe: "why have that folder if it doesn't make stuff appear on the GUI's desktop?"

Because in Fedora for example allows you to log in using Gnome classic.
